 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda. 14-year-old Narrates How They Killed University Lecturer   A 14-year-old girl, Joy Afekafe, on Tuesday, narrated how she and her two friends, Walex and Smart, stabbed Dr. Funmilola Adefolalu, a lecturer with the Department of Biochemistry, Federal University of Technology, Minna to death in her apartment in Minna, Niger State. The lecturer was found dead in a pool of her own blood and the knives used to stab her in her home in Minna on Saturday, October 28. Afekafe was paraded as one of the suspects responsible for the murder of Dr Adefolalu, at the Bosso Police Station in Minna, Niger state on Tuesday. While confessing to the crime, Afekafe said she had previously lived with the lecturers for about two weeks on the pretext that she would take over the sponsorship of her education. But the SS 2 Student of Day Secondary School, Gidan Kuka, said the lecturer decided to send her away after two weeks because she could not stomach her behaviours. Singer apologises for reciting national anthem wrongly during police conference  Singer, Mercy Isoyip, aka Descushiel, has apologised to Nigerians and the Nigeria Police Force after reciting the national anthem wrongly during the Conference for Senior Police Officers in Imo State. The singer, who donned the police uniform during the conference, went viral on Monday after she recited the national anthem at the event and missed the lyrics. This led to knocks from the netizens as they trolled the singer, who was presumed to be a policewoman because of her outfit. In a video on her Instagram page on Tuesday, Descushiel apologised for her errors. Lady Dies After Escapade With Boyfriend In Kwara, Police Begin Probe A lady has died after a reported escapade with her boyfriend in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital. The incident happened on Monday at a guest house situated in the Temidire community, Offa Garage area of the metropolis. Sources in the area claimed that the man, a barbing saloon owner, was under the influence of drugs with the aim of impressing her girlfriend before the experience turned sour. “The girl was said to have got tired during the mating and later gave up the ghost,” one of the sources told Newsmen. The source said that the man raised an alarm when the lady reportedly became unconscious and thus attracted workers at the guest house. The lady was said to have been rushed to a nearby hospital where she was confirmed dead. Rivers govt denies sack of Chief Judge, suspension of LG chairmen The Rivers State Government has dismissed reports that it has sacked the Chief Judge, CJ, of the state, Justice Simeon Amadi, and suspended the chairmen of the 23 Local Government Areas in the state. Following the crisis between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and some members of the State Assembly, there were reports that the government has sacked the CJ and the LG chairmen. The state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joe Johnson in a statement on Tuesday, clarified that the governor has not given such a directive. The commissioner further appealed to Rivers people and the general public to ignore the reports. Johnson assured that the public will be properly informed of persons who may be dismissed at the appropriate time. PASAN Shuts Down Sokoto, Kano Assembly  Members of the Sokoto State Chapter of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria PASAN has joined their counterparts on an indefinite nationwide strike.  Chairman of the association Mr Abubakar Yusuf, told newsmen in Sokoto that the move was an extension of their ongoing struggle that began since 2020.
