During a meeting with the leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Jalingo on Thursday, Opara highlighted the importance of dialogue and cooperation for long-term development. Finidi George still Enyimba manager, says Abia State govt Abia State government, yesterday, denied reports that Enyimba of Aba Manager, Finidi George, has been sacked alongside other members of the technical crew. A letter signed by Enyimba’ Sporting Director, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, yesterday, had instructed members of the club’s teams A and Bto reapply for their jobs if they desired to retain the positions. The letter warned the affected officials that they must submit their application to the management of the club within 48 hours if they still wanted their jobs. Emefiele: Lawyers File Contempt Charge Against DSS DG Some constitutional and human rights lawyers have filed a contempt charge and commenced committal proceedings against the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi. The move against Bichi, according to the lawyers, is a result of a violation of multiple judgements and orders of court directing the release of the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Godwin Emefiele, from the custody of the agency. Led by Maxwell Opara and Ahmed Tijani, the lawyers are praying that the court commits Bichi to prison until he purges himself of the contempt. In their motion filed before the court for the issuing of Form 48 and Form 49 which are the forms to commence proceedings to commit a contemnor to prison, the lawyers said by the judgements and orders of Justice M. Ondo schoolgirls demand ₦100k ransom from mother after faking their own kidnap The Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, has arrested no fewer than 28 people for their involvement in various crimes in some parts of the state. Among the suspected criminals were two secondary school girls who were arrested by the men of the corps for allegedly faking their kidnap and demanding ransom from their mother. Parading the suspects at the headquarters of the command in Akure the state capital, on Monday, the state Commander of the Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said the two female pupils were 13 and 15 years of age. Both of them were said to be in JSS 1 and JSS 3. According to the commander, the suspects hid somewhere at Oka-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of the state, and called their mother, pretending to be kidnappers who abducted them and demanded a sum of N100,000. FG, DisCos may agree on tariff hike as electricity subsidy hits ₦2.8 trillion The FG and DisCos may soon arrive at an agreement following the request by power distribution companies (DisCos) to review electricity tariffs. According to a recent report by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, (NERC) titled, ‘Overview of the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry.’ The FG benefitted from DisCos’ decision to hike electricity tariffs as it sliced off payment of an additional ₦1 trillion in subsidy to power firms. The NERC report also revealed that the amount of subsidy (tariff shortfall) paid by the Federal Government between 2015 and 2022 increased to ₦2.8 trillion while the amount spent on electricity subsidy between January and April 2023 gulped ₦57 billion. “Without the tariff reviews that commenced in 2019, subsidies payable by the government would have grown to about ₦1trillon per annum by 2023. Service-Based Tariff was instrumental in the transition to cost-reflective levels.”...

NYSC to sanction members violating scheme’s dress code – DG 17th Jul 2023  The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), says it will sanction any member caught violating the scheme’s dress code or breaking the NYSC rules. The NYSC Director General (DG), Brig.-Gen. Yusha’u Dogara, said this during a visit to the Borno NYSC orientation camp on Sunday in Katsina. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that corps members posted to Borno have been camping in Katsina State due to the security situation in Borno State. Police Arrest Kidnap Kingpin, Other Suspects In Rivers The Rivers State Police Command on Monday arrested and paraded some suspects for a variety of crimes and offences, including a notorious kidnap kingpin, Princewill Orlu. Orlu’s camp is believed to be in the Emohua Local Government Area (LGA) of the state. Confirming the arrests during a press briefing at the state police headquarters in Port Harcourt, the Commissioner of Police, Nwonyi Emeka, said the suspects were arrested by his men on suspicion of being involved in a variety of criminal activities. The CP gave details about how his men trailed and arrested the suspects, and recovered illicit arms in their possession. The other suspects arrested included Adebayo Anu, Ikpendu Ibeche, Olu Gabriel, Godtime Samuel, and Thankgod Wori, all males, among others. Some of the suspects who spoke to Newsmen gave varying accounts of their involvement in the crimes for which the police arrested them..

Reps Members Defend N70bn Allocation As NASS Renovation Two members of the House of Representatives have defended the National Assembly in the wake of the controversy trailing its N70 billion allocation in the 2022 Supplementary Appropriation Act.
