APPLE'S STATEMENT ON MINERALS MUST BE 'VERIFIED'-DRC. (PHOTO).

 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda.       The Kaduna State Government today presented 85 new vehicles to security agencies in the state. The presentations were made after security consultations earlier today with stakeholders from Birnin Gwari, Igabi and Chikun local government areas.       Mrs. Stella Amako and Hajiya Zainab Shehu have been named Special Advisers to Governor Nasir El-Rufai, for Community Relations and Social Development, respectively. These appointments bring to five the number of women among the 11 special advisers in the current government. According to a statement from Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, the new special advisers are among the 17 officials that were appointed today. Most of the new appointe es played active roles in the Kaduna APC 2019 Campaign Council and the Transition Committee or were officials in the Kaduna State APC state executive. The new appointees are: 1. Stella Amako, the new Special Adviser- Community Relations, served on the Transition Committee and the APC Campaign Council. 2.       The Duke of Cambridge hosted an Investiture today at Buckingham Palace on behalf of The Queen. Congratulations to Sarah Burns, Chair of Smart Works in Reading, who received an MBE for Services to Disadvantaged Women. The Duchess of Sussex is Patron of Smart Works, a charity providing interview clothing, styling advice and coaching to women looking for employment. Sarah’s work the Thames Valley area has helped over 700 women back to work. Captain David Cole, Director of Music for The Royal British Legion collected an MBE from The Duke of Cambridge. During the Royal British Legion’s annual  # FestivalofRemembrance  we commemorate all those who have lost their lives in conflict.      The EFCC, Port Harcourt Zonal Office, on Monday November 4, 2019 arraigned the trio of Charity Nneoma Ukonu, Udeachara Uche and Idika Kalu before Justice E.N Anyadike of the Federal High Court sitting in Umuahia, Abia State on 11-count charges bordering on money laundering, stealing and diversion of funds to the tune of N6,260,321.08( Six Million, Two Hundred and Sixty Thousand, Three Hundred and Twenty One Naira, Eight   Kobo only) contrary to Section 18(a) and Punishable under Section 15 of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2012 (as amended). Specifically, the three defendants, being employees of Abia State Government and members of Abia State Salary Verification Committee, allegedly defrauded and stole money from the funds designated for salaries by the State Government to the tune of N6,260,321.08( Six Million, Two Hundred And Sixty Thousand, Three Hundred and Twenty One Naira, Eight Kobo only).More photos below.

LAWAN, GBAJABIAMILA INTERVENE IN EX-LEGISLATIVE AIDES’ SEVERANCE PAY DELAY.#PRESS RELEASE.

       The leadership of the Senate and House of Representatives on Monday waded into the non-payment of severance allowances for legislative aides who served in the Eighth National Assembly between 2015 & 2019. President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan and Speaker of House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, met the relevant agencies of government led by the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed. The meeting, which was held behind closed doors, was attended by principal officers of the Senate and House of Representatives. Also present at the meeting was the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Ben Akabueze.       The EFCC, Benin Zonal office, has arrested eight (8) officials of Communication Trends Limited ( CTL), JAO TV and Worldlink, Pay TV operators, for illegally broadcasting signal and Intellectual property of Multichoice Nigeria Limited. The Pay TV operators allegedly broadcast the English Premier League (EPL) matches and other content on their pay TV stations/network illegally to the detriment of Multichoice Nigeria which acquired   the rights to broadcast. They were arrested at their respective locations in Edo and Delta State through intelligence report and the support of officials of Multichoice. Those arrested are Faith Ohawe, Tochukwu Nwosu, Nzemere Chika, Joshua Egboyen and Ogujor Franklin. Others Ebuaka Lola, Esekhaige Victor and Kenedy Uduobor.

      In keeping with sanitizing the country of digital malpractices, Officers of the EFCC drafted from different zonal offices and the headquarters were at a four day training programme on cyber-crime and digital forensics investigations, at the EFCC Academy Karu, Abuja from the 28th to 31st of October 2019. The training is part of the efforts of the Ag. Executive Chairman’s resolve to enhance the skill se t of EFCC operatives in the various fields of their operational investigations to checkmate the current surge of online fraud. Suraj Sanusi, the Head of the Operational Studies Unit, said the training was designed to improve the capacity of staff in the area of Cybercrime and Digital Forensics based on the need assessment conducted by the Academy and also the Commission’s efforts of sharpening staff skills and updating their knowledge necessary to tackle the rising incidences of Cybercrime in Nigeria and beyond.One more photo below.

      Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike declared that the commercialisation of kidnapping has made it almost impossible to end the menace. Speaking during a Courtesy Visit by Rotary District Governor 9141 Nigeria at the Government House Port Harcourt on Monday, Governor Wike said since kidnapping is now a business, it can only be reduced to the barest minimum. He said: "It is now impo ssible to stop kidnapping in Nigeria. It is now a business. It has been commercialised. "It is now a major business. Everyone must partner with the government to ensure that we reduce it to the barest minimum. But it cannot be totally eradicated."        Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has stated that the State Government will complete and deliver the Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo-Nkoro Unity Road as part of the first year anniversary of his second term. He announced the immediate release of additional funds to the contractors for the completion of work on the all-important road. He said: "I have directed the release of additional funds to the contractor for the completion of the road. "We have directed the contractor to use the funds to complete the road. The road will be completed to Opobo and Andoni towns. The road will be commissioned as part of the first year of our second term."      I got a phone call on the evening of 30th October 2011 from Massob Leader Chief Ralph Uwazurike who expressed his wish to host an interdenominational prayer service / Birthday Celebration for Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu , then critically ill in a UK hospital fighting what was to be the last battle of his life. I hastily concluded travel arrangements to return home from London for the Ceremony. In th ree short days, Uwazurike was able to put together the spectacular ceremony of 4th November 2011. What was amazing was that in spite of the short notice, so many great igbo sons and daughters across party affiliations, Governors of the South East, Religious and traditional leaders, Biafra war veterans turned up at the ceremony which took place in Ikemba’s residence at Enugu to pray for his recovery and celebrate their icon’s birthday.
