 Federal High Court to Begin Yuletide Vacation on December 16 The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Justice John Tsoho, has announced that the court's 2024 yuletide vacation will begin on December 16, 2024.  According to a circular signed by the Chief Judge and released on Wednesday, the vacation will end on January 6, 2025, with court proceedings resuming on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, across all judicial divisions. As stipulated by Order 46, Rule 4 (C) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019 (as amended), the vacation period will only accommodate urgent matters, including cases related to the enforcement of fundamental rights, arrest or release of vessels, and matters of significant national interest.  19 out of 38 Directors Fail Permanent Secretary Qualifying Exam — Head of Service Of the 38 directors shortlisted for the position of permanent secretary in the Federal Civil Service, 19 have failed the qualifying exam. In October, the Federal Government, through the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), launched the selection process to appoint new permanent secretaries to fill vacancies in eight states.  EFCC Arraigns Syndicate Impersonating Olukoyede for $700,000 Fraud The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arraigned two members of an alleged syndicate, Ojobo Joshua and Aliyu Hashim for attempted fraud and impersonating the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Ola Olukoyede.   They were arraigned on Wednesday, November 13, 2024  before Justice Jude Onwuebuzie of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court, sitting in Apo, Abuja. The suspects allegedly contacted Mohammed Bello-Koko, former Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, claiming to have access to a phony investigation involving him by the EFCC.  They demanded $1 million, promising that the EFCC Chairman, Olukoyede would ensure a “soft landing” for them. They also threatened him with arrest and prosecution should he fail to play along with them. The EFCC filed a four-count charge against the duo for impersonation and attempted fraud.  EFCC Arrests 11 Suspected Currency Racketeers in Port Harcourt   Operatives of the Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate of the  Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,  on Tuesday,  November 11, 2024,  arrested 11 ( eleven)suspected currency racketeers and internet fraudsters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.    They were arrested around Apara Street, New  Government Reservation Area, GRA,  Port Harcourt based on credible intelligence on their suspected involvement in naira abuse and internet fraud   The suspects are: Rafael Obi, John Daniel, Dominion Sambo, Solomon Nwoke, Solomon Daniel, Stanley Uche, Micheal Markson, Chima Fred Onwra, Arinze Damian, Vizor Richard and Chidera Orji.   Items recovered from them include, cash totaling  N1,485,000.00 (One Million Four Hundred and Eighty-five Thousand), five luxury vehicles smartphones and several  incriminating documents    They will be charged to court as soon as the investigations are concluded.    More photos below.

 NECO Confirms Full Payment to 72,138 Examiners for 2024 SSCE The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced that it has completed the payment of allowances to the 72,138 examiners who served as ad hoc staff for the 2024 School-Based Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE). In a statement issued on Wednesday by Azeez Sani, the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, NECO confirmed that payments began on October 4, 2024, and were processed bank-by-bank to ensure smooth reconciliation. As of November 13, 2024, all examiners have received their full entitlements as per the Council’s payment plan. NECO acknowledged that some examiners initially submitted incorrect bank details, but these errors have since been corrected, and payments have now been successfully processed through all 24 participating banks. The Council also dismissed as false recent claims circulating on social media alleging that it had intentionally withheld payments to the 2024 SSCE examiners.  &

 Edo Governor Okpebholo Dissolves Boards and Terminates Political Appointments Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has dissolved all existing boards and terminated the appointments of political appointees, including those of Permanent Secretaries appointed from outside the state civil service. In a statement issued by the Governor's Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, it was announced that all executives of boards, agencies, and parastatals in the Edo State public service have been dissolved with immediate effect. Additionally, all political appointees, including Permanent Secretaries appointed externally, have been relieved of their duties. The affected individuals have been instructed to return all government properties in their possession to the most senior public officer in their respective ministries, departments, and agencies.

 Immigration Raises Alarm Over Growing Influx of Irregular Migrants into Nigeria The Controller of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Edo State Command, Martins Moye, has raised concerns over the increasing number of irregular migrants entering Nigeria.  Oyo State Approves Expansion of Social Register to Support Vulnerable Households The Oyo State Government has approved the expansion of its social register to better identify and assist poor and vulnerable individuals eligible for social intervention programs.  The announcement was made by Salami Ismail, Acting Coordinator of the State Operation Coordinating Unit, during advocacy and sensitization visits to political leaders and management teams in 12 local government areas participating in the 10th round of the Community-Based Targeting exercise.  In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, Ismail explained that the expansion of the register is part of Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to supporting disadvantaged households across the state.  Libya deports seven Nigerians, others The Department for Combating Illegal Migration in Libya, Migrant Rescue Watch has deported seven Nigerians, three Bangladeshis, and three Ghanaians detained at the Qanfoudah Immigration Detention Centre. They were deported for violating Libyan law. In a statement on their X handle on Tuesday, the deportees have been flown out of Libya via Benina International Airport in Benghazi. The statement read, “DCIM deported 13 migrants (3 Bangladeshis, 3 Ghanaians, and 7 Nigerians) from the Qanfoudah Immigration Detention Centre via Benina International Airport in Benghazi. All individuals were deported for violating laws in force in the Libyan state.”

 In a major step to enhance security in Kano State, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has donated 78 patrol vehicles to the State Police Command, bolstering its capacity to maintain law and order.      Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has named Dr Aminu Magashi as the Technical Adviser for the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.  The appointment, effective September 28, 2024, was announced by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa. Governor Yusuf highlighted Dr. Magashi’s decades-long dedication to public service and his commitment to improving the lives of Kano's underserved communities.  According to the statement,Dr. Magashi, has over 30 years in development and humanitarian work.

 The Coordinating Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, has launched the National Occupational Health and Safety Strategic Plan (2024-2028) to create safer and healthier workplaces across the country.  A statement by the Deputy Director, Information and Public Relations, Alaba Balogun explained that the plan provides clear guidance for the Ministry and its partners to prevent and manage workplace diseases, injuries, and accidents, improving employee health and productivity.  Prof Pate highlighted the growing need for this initiative, especially as the government encourages non-oil sectors like mining and agriculture, which present unique safety risks. To ensure the success of the plan, the Minister represented by Permanent Secretary Daju Kachollom, called for collaboration from all Ministries, departments and agencies of government, partners, and organizations to raise N1.34 billion needed over the next five years.

Police in Milwaukee first found out about this case when they were called to a hospital last week for possible child abuse. 20-year-old Jalin White was watching his baby boy while the baby's mother went out for the evening when the shocking event occurred.  As police began to question Jalin, he tried blaming the child's injuries on the mother among various other lies. However under further questioning he began to admit he had "gotten angry because he was losing while playing NBA 2k" and "flung his young child against the wall as a result".  During his confession he is quoted saying, "He hit his head hard on the wall bro, I heard the impact of the wall after I tossed him."  Louisville, Kentucky- A massive explosion occurred at the Givaudan Sense Colour establishment, formerly known as the DDW plant, at approximately 3:00 p.m. this afternoon.  The explosion was heard many miles away and was seen from many miles away.  11 individuals were injured in this event. So far, there are no fatalities. However, two of the individuals are in critical condition. There was concern that individuals were trapped, but all individuals have been accounted for at this time.  It is unclear what caused this explosion.  Our thoughts are with absolutely everyone that had to not only see this explosion but especially those that were inside and injured.  Bobrisky’s Saga Is A Reflection Of Institutional Lapses, Says FG The Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo believes the Bobrisky saga is a reflection of institutional issues in the country.  Bobrisky, a popular cross-dresser whose real name is Idris Okuneye, has been embroiled in a saga over his jail time for naira abuse.  Police reinforce ban on motorcycles in Owerri In a bid to enhance crime control within Owerri, the state capital, and its environment, the Imo State Police Command has reinforced the ban on the use of motorcycles within the capital city as it enjoined the general public to adhere to the directives. Police Public Relations Officer ASP Henry Okoye, in a press statement, informed that the order takes immediate effect, warning that any violator of the directive will be arrested and their motorcycles impounded. He stated that the measure is part of the ongoing efforts by the state government to enhance security and reduce crime within the metropolis.
