 Federal High Court to Begin Yuletide Vacation on December 16 The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Justice John Tsoho, has announced that the court's 2024 yuletide vacation will begin on December 16, 2024.  According to a circular signed by the Chief Judge and released on Wednesday, the vacation will end on January 6, 2025, with court proceedings resuming on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, across all judicial divisions. As stipulated by Order 46, Rule 4 (C) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019 (as amended), the vacation period will only accommodate urgent matters, including cases related to the enforcement of fundamental rights, arrest or release of vessels, and matters of significant national interest. In October, the Federal Government, through the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), launched the selection process to appoint new permanent secretaries to fill vacancies in eight states.  EFCC Arraigns Syndicate Impersonating Olukoyede for $700,000 Fraud The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arraigned two members of an alleged syndicate, Ojobo Joshua and Aliyu Hashim for attempted fraud and impersonating the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Ola Olukoyede.   They were arraigned on Wednesday, November 13, 2024  before Justice Jude Onwuebuzie of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court, sitting in Apo, Abuja. The suspects allegedly contacted Mohammed Bello-Koko, former Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, claiming to have access to a phony investigation involving him by the EFCC.  They demanded $1 million, promising that the EFCC Chairman, Olukoyede would ensure a “soft landing” for them.  NECO Confirms Full Payment to 72,138 Examiners for 2024 SSCE The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced that it has completed the payment of allowances to the 72,138 examiners who served as ad hoc staff for the 2024 School-Based Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE). In a statement issued on Wednesday by Azeez Sani, the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, NECO confirmed that payments began on October 4, 2024, and were processed bank-by-bank to ensure smooth reconciliation. As of November 13, 2024, all examiners have received their full entitlements as per the Council’s payment plan. NECO acknowledged that some examiners initially submitted incorrect bank details, but these errors have since been corrected, and payments have now been successfully processed through all 24 participating banks.  Libya deports seven Nigerians, others The Department for Combating Illegal Migration in Libya, Migrant Rescue Watch has deported seven Nigerians, three Bangladeshis, and three Ghanaians detained at the Qanfoudah Immigration Detention Centre. They were deported for violating Libyan law. In a statement on their X handle on Tuesday, the deportees have been flown out of Libya via Benina International Airport in Benghazi. The statement read, “DCIM deported 13 migrants (3 Bangladeshis, 3 Ghanaians, and 7 Nigerians) from the Qanfoudah Immigration Detention Centre via Benina International Airport in Benghazi.  The Coordinating Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, has launched the National Occupational Health and Safety Strategic Plan (2024-2028) to create safer and healthier workplaces across the country.  A statement by the Deputy Director, Information and Public Relations, Alaba Balogun explained that the plan provides clear guidance for the Ministry and its partners to prevent and manage workplace diseases, injuries, and accidents, improving employee health and productivity.  Prof Pate highlighted the growing need for this initiative, especially as the government encourages non-oil sectors like mining and agriculture, which present unique safety risks. To ensure the success of the plan, the Minister represented by Permanent Secretary Daju Kachollom, called for collaboration from all Ministries, departments and agencies of government, partners, and organizations to raise N1.34 billion needed over the next five years.

 Okonjo-Iweala: WTO To Convey Special Meeting For Selection Of Next DG The World Trade Organization has said it would convey a special meeting of its General Council to advance the process for selecting the next Director-General. A statement issued by Chair of the General Council, Ambassador Petter Ølberg of Norway on Tuesday, said the meeting will be held on November 28-29, 2024. The meeting follows the announcement by the Chair on 9 November that no candidates for the position of Director-General had emerged by the 8th of November nomination deadline, other than the incumbent Director-General, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. In his communication to members, Ambassador Ølberg said that, based on his contacts with delegations over the past days, and as has been done in past instances where the incumbent Director-General was the only candidate, he intends to convene a special formal meeting of the General Council on 28 and 29 November.  A Wisconsin man slammed his 8-month old baby against the wall after losing on the NBA 2K video game. The baby is sadly not expected to survive. Police in Milwaukee first found out about this case when they were called to a hospital last week for possible child abuse. 20-year-old Jalin White was watching his baby boy while the baby's mother went out for the evening when the shocking event occurred.  As police began to question Jalin, he tried blaming the child's injuries on the mother among various other lies. However under further questioning he began to admit he had "gotten angry because he was losing while playing NBA 2k" and "flung his young child against the wall as a result".  During his confession he is quoted saying, "He hit his head hard on the wall bro, I heard the impact of the wall after I tossed him."  Louisville, Kentucky- A massive explosion occurred at the Givaudan Sense Colour establishment, formerly known as the DDW plant, at approximately 3:00 p.m. this afternoon.  The explosion was heard many miles away and was seen from many miles away.  11 individuals were injured in this event. So far, there are no fatalities. However, two of the individuals are in critical condition. There was concern that individuals were trapped, but all individuals have been accounted for at this time.  It is unclear what caused this explosion.  Our thoughts are with absolutely everyone that had to not only see this explosion but especially those that were inside and injured.  Bobrisky’s Saga Is A Reflection Of Institutional Lapses, Says FG The Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo believes the Bobrisky saga is a reflection of institutional issues in the country.  Bobrisky, a popular cross-dresser whose real name is Idris Okuneye, has been embroiled in a saga over his jail time for naira abuse. In a viral audio, the cross-dresser claimed to have paid some officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to get special treatment in prison.  Police reinforce ban on motorcycles in Owerri In a bid to enhance crime control within Owerri, the state capital, and its environment, the Imo State Police Command has reinforced the ban on the use of motorcycles within the capital city as it enjoined the general public to adhere to the directives.
