 Taraba: Police Commissioner Calls for Peaceful Coexistence Between Herders and Farmers The Taraba State Commissioner of Police, Ukachi Peter Opara, has urged for greater peace and understanding between herders and farmers in the state. During a meeting with the leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Jalingo on Thursday, Opara highlighted the importance of dialogue and cooperation for long-term development. He emphasized that peaceful coexistence between these groups is crucial for their livelihoods and for fostering economic growth and stability in the state and the nation. Opara commended MACBAN for its readiness to collaborate with the police in promoting peace and security in Taraba. He reassured that the police would continue to work diligently to protect lives and property and pledged to leave no stone unturned in maintaining peace and stability in the state. … Targets 10,000 New Jobs Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babjide Sanwo-Olu, has said that the government will establish the Lagos Aquaculture Centre of Excellence (L.A.C.E), in collaboration with a private sector investor, as part of efforts to boost fish production in the State. Governor Sanwo-Olu, who disclosed this over the weekend at the Y2020 edition of the Lagos Seafood Festival held at the Muri-Okunola Park, Victoria Island, explained that the Centre is expected to generate no fewer than 5,000 smallholder fish farms, which would in turn create about 1,000 indirect jobs during the construction phase and another 500 direct jobs opportunities for people who would be engaged at different phases of the project. He pointed out that the Project includes the establishment of a 50 million fish hatchery facility, projected 2,000 tons per annum table-sized fish production schedule, 24,000 tons per annum fish feed mill as well as a 20,000 ton-per-annum fish and seafood processing centre.   The Lagos State Government is set to arraign one Fred Onwuche, a commercial driver, next week, for allegedly assaulting Razak Kosoko, a LASTMA official who was on assigned duty in Lekki. A statement issued over the weekend by the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN), warned the general public of the dire consequences of the law on recalcitrant motorists and residents, who habitually assault officials of the State Government while on official duties. In his words, "The State Government shall not hesitate to prosecute to the full extent of the law, recalcitrant motorists and residents who assault State officials on assigned duties". "Such attacks will be met with stiffer punishments under the law. The State Government is poised to uphold the rule of law by ensuring that the fundamental right of every resident is protected", he added.   President Muhammadu Buhari celebrates the decisive victory of Nigerian-born boxer, Anthony Joshua over Kubrat Pulev Saturday night. The President says by retaining his IBF, WBA, and WBO titles, Joshua has given boxing lovers round the world, and particularly in Nigeria, something to cheer. He recalls his meeting with the heavyweight champion in London earlier in the year, describing Anthony Joshua as a humble, well brought up young man, “who will still go places.” President Buhari wishes Joshua all the best in his dream fight against Tyson Fury, saying he has the prayers and goodwill of Nigerians going with him.
