 LAGFERRY BOAT FIRE The Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) earlier today had a fire on one of its boats, Igbega Eko, at the Ipakodo Terminal in Ikorodu. Preliminary reports indicate that the fire started at about 6.45 a.m. There were 19 passengers on board. The inferno started after passengers had boarded the boat to depart the terminal.  All passengers were rescued alive. Nine of them who, unfortunately, sustained burn injuries are receiving medical attention at the Ikorodu General Hospital. They will be treated free of charge. Emergency protocols were promptly activated at the scene. LAGFERRY sincerely appreciates all responders, Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), private boat operators, and other rescuers who worked tirelessly to contain the situation.  The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has instructed telecom operators, including Jio, Airtel, and Vi, to implement the Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) feature.  This feature will allow mobile users to see the caller’s registered name on their screen without needing third-party apps like Truecaller. The move is aimed at reducing spam and fraudulent calls by ensuring caller identity verification. To make CNAP a reality, major telecom companies such as Vodafone Idea, Bharti Airtel, and Reliance Jio are working with global tech firms like HP, Dell, Ericsson, and Nokia. The necessary equipment for trials has already been ordered, and initial tests have been conducted in select regions. The service will be introduced in phases once the technology is fully stabilized.  Site Engineer Killed in Delta by Employees After Discovering Large Sum of Money in His Account A gruesome murder has shaken the community in Delta State, Nigeria, where a site engineer, Chigozie Udalor, was killed by his employees after they discovered he had a substantial amount of money in his bank account.¹ According to the police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the incident occurred on December 10, 2024, when Udalor's cousin, Hyacinth Nnalue, reported him missing. Nnalue stated that Udalor was the site manager at his fish pond in Bod camp Akwukwu Igbo community. The police launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of two suspects, David Tacho and Daniel Orshio, on March 31, 2025. Tacho was caught attempting to withdraw money from Udalor's account using his phone. Preliminary investigations revealed that all four suspects, including two still at large, Pius Daniel and Victor Tacho, were employed by Udalor. The inferno, which started while residents were asleep, ravaged the entire storey apartment, causing immense distress among those affected. Although no lives were lost, the fire's cause remains unknown. However, some residents suspect a sudden electrical spark in one of the rooms may have triggered the blaze. Quick-thinking youths and sympathizers at Obohia road prevented the fire from spreading to nearby houses and shops. The affected tenants have described the incident as a major disaster and are appealing to the Abia State government for assistance.   The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that the 2025 UTME Mock Notification Slips are now available for printing for candidates who registered for the optional test.¹ According to JAMB's Public Communication Adviser, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the slip contains essential details such as the examination date, venue, time, and other important instructions. To print their slips, candidates can visit the JAMB website at www.jamb.gov.ng ( http://www.jamb.gov.ng ), click on "2025 Mock Slip Printing," enter their registration number, and select "Print Examination Slip". The mock examination is scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 10, 2025, while the main UTME is set to begin on Friday, April 25, 2025. JAMB urged candidates to print their slips early and visit their assigned centers ahead of time to avoid last-minute challenges. The board also wished all candidates success in their preparations.
