 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda. Nasarawa NYCN Suspends Chairman Over Alleged Financial Misconduct  The Chairman, Nasarawa State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria(NYCN), Comrade Muhammad Ja'afar Loko, has been suspended from office over alleged financial misconduct.  Mr Loko, a former Speaker of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria(YAN) was accused of siphoning millions of naira belonging to the council.  The decision was taken on Wednesday at its end-of-the-year congress held at the Abacha Youth Centre, Lafia.  The council also constituted a fact-finding committee to thoroughly investigate the suspended Chairman over the allegations levied by some local branches of the association among others.  Furthermore, Comrade Alhassan Muhammad Nasir has been appointed to preside over the affairs of the Council pending the outcome of the investigation.  Speaking with our correspondent, the Legal Adviser of the council, Barrister John Samuel Attah confirmed the suspension, adding that it was ...

Rivers State Students Will Soon Receive Scholarship And Bursary – NURSS President, Abbey. The President of National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS), Comr. Abbey Precious, has assured the payment of bursary and scholarship opportunities to students of Rivers State origin. The president did not specify the amount of the bursary per student. He also advised Rivers Students and Youth to keep praying, supporting the State Governor, His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara. "The details of the scholarship and bursary will be available to the general public when it is time." the NURSS President added.

A Michigan police officer, Cameron Rieper, rescued an elderly woman from a burning pickup truck in Macomb County. The incident occurred late Saturday night. The officer responded to the reports of the vehicle on fire in a street median. Officer Rieper, who has experience as a firefighter, immediately approached the vehicle as the flames spread to the engine compartment and bed area. The woman was suffering from smoke inhalation and had grabbed her steering wheel while the officer was trying to remove her safely from the vehicle. Good job, Officer Rieper.

Police invite Phyna over failure to return rented wig Former Big Brother Naija winner, Josephine Otabor, popularly known as Phyna has been invited by the Nigeria Police over her alleged failure to return a rented wig after the expiration of the rental period. Recall that a hair vendor recently called out Phyna for allegedly refusing to return a “rented” wig after the expiration of the rental period. Despite initially denying the allegations, Phyna in a video shared via her social media page recently, admitted renting the wig, saying she returned it after she was called out but the hair vendor rejected it. According to her, she decided to keep the wig because the damage the hair vendor did to her was more than the price of the wig. She said the hair vendor came to her house with some police officers and dropped a letter after they met her absent. A video shared by a Nigerian musician, Adegbodu Taiwo, also known as Ejireadegbodu on his verified Instagram account showed them alighting from a bus after they were released in the early hours of Thursday.  Senate orders IG to produce CAC boss within 24 hours The Senate Committee on Finance has mandated the Inspector General of Police to compel the appearance of the Registrar General of Corporate Affairs Commission, Ishaq Magaji, before it within 24 hours. The Senate Committee Chairman, Sani Musa, expressed anger when the Registrar General shunned the committee’s invitation for the third time on Wednesday. He was expected to appear to defend the commission’s 2024 budget, as some financial discrepancies were spotted by the committee in the documents submitted. 'It's meaningless' - Wizkid speaks on life after mother’s death Grammy-winning music star Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has revealed that life has been meaningless to him since he lost his mother, Mrs Jane Dolapo Balogun. The singer took to his Instagram story to express heartbreak over his mum’s death, revealing that since she died, life hasn’t returned to normalcy for him. He noted how he made ‘IDK’, one of his latest songs, after his mother’s death because life to him is meaningless despite having four kids. In another post, he stated that sometimes, one has to let everything go and work with God. He wrote: “Made idk days after I lost my mum. Life’s been meaningless! But we dey!!
