Kenya lawmakers impeach Vice President Gachagua Kenya’s parliament, on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, voted to impeach Vice President Rigathi Gachagua on charges including enriching himself and stirring ethnic hatred. The impeachment paved the way for the Senate to consider the motion. “According to the results of the motion that I’ve just declared, a total of 281 members being more than two-thirds of the members of the National Assembly have voted in support of the motion,” Speaker Moses Wetang’ula said. Gachagua, who has denied all the charges, backed President William Ruto in his 2022 election win and helped secure a large block of votes from the populous central Kenya region. But in recent months, he has spoken of being sidelined, amid widespread reports in local media that he has fallen out with Ruto as political alliances have shifted. Ruto dismissed most of his cabinet and brought in members of the main opposition following nationwide protests against unpopular tax increases in June

AN Open Letter From Dele Momodu To Nyesom Ezenwo Wike - CON, GSSRS . EARLIER WARNING: "MY KOBO ADVICE TO GOVERNOR NYESOM WIKE... My dear Brother, good evening.  I have watched you in recent months with trepidation. I'm scared about your inability to comprehend the country called Nigeria. You must have underrated how the owners of Nigeria operate. I studied the biography of CHIEF OBAFEMI AWOLOWO. I was an insider in the June 12 1993 crisis, and a veritable witness to the tribulations of my great mentor, CHIEF MOSHOOD ABIOLA. Closer home, you must have seen how your predecessor, DR PETER ODILI, was stopped in his tracks in 2007.  You're certainly one of Nigeria's best performing Governors, if not the best. Personally, I'm very proud of your uncommon achievements. I know you are very angry. It is your right to be. But I'm begging you in the name of God not to take decisions based on anger... Nigeria has been very kind to you. Rivers State has been extremely gener

Burkina Faso suspends Voice of America for insurgency report Burkina Faso's junta has suspended US-funded broadcaster Voice of America for three months over comments about a militant insurgency in West Africa's Sahel region, and temporarily banned local news outlets from using any international media reports, authorities. The superior council for communication (CSC) accused Voice of America (VOA) of demoralising troops in Burkina Faso and neighbouring Mali in a discussion on September 19 that was also broadcast by a private local radio station. It said the reporter described an attack on Bamako last month as "courageous", criticised security operations and provided an unfounded death toll for an attack on a Burkina Faso town that killed hundreds in August, according to Reuters. Last month, the CSC withdrew the radio frequencies of France's popular RFI radio, which regularly reports on the Sahel. It did not provide an explanation for its removal.
