APPLE'S STATEMENT ON MINERALS MUST BE 'VERIFIED'-DRC. (PHOTO).

 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda. Government of Anambra State has sympathised with the family of Dr. Cosmas Maduka, Chairman of  Coscharis Group, over the loss of their wife, late Mrs Charity Nchedo Maduka, Nee Ikedife. Governor Willie Obiano who attended the funeral Mass held at the Maduka residence, Coscharis Street, Umudim, Nnewi, urged the family to bear the loss with hope. Before her demise  the late Mrs Maduka, aged 63, strongly spearheaded administrative, legal, works, maintainance and export teams  of the Coscharis Consortium.  Suspected Fulani Herdsmen Set Ondo Community Ablaze, Kill Three Persons No fewer than three persons were reportedly shot dead by suspected Fulani herdsmen who invaded Molege Village in Ose Council Area of Ondo State. Several houses were reportedly razed along Elerinla near Arimogija by the rampaging herders who were irked that the villagers prevented their cows from feeding on their farmlands. They reportedly mobilised and set the villages and the farms on fire. The villages took to their heels while their properties were destroyed by the herdsmen.

TEENAGERS ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTING TO USE A 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL FOR RITUALS IN BAYELSA.{PHOTOS}.

Detectives of Bayelsa State Police Command in collaboration with youth of Sagbama Community have arrested three suspects for attempted r!tual k!lling. It is reported that the suspects namely; Emomotimi Magbisa, 16, Perebi Aweke, 15, and Eke Prince, 15, all natives of Sagbama Community, on Monday January 3, allegedly accosted one Endeley Comfort and lured her to Emomotimi’s apartment. According to a statement by the Bayelsa’s police command’s spokesperson, SP Asinim Butswat, they c*t the victim’s finger and sprinkled the bl*od on a mirror for r!tual purposes. Vigilant youth noticed the suspicious movements of the suspects and raised an alarm. The suspects were subsequently arrested and some substance suspected to be charms were recovered from them. The suspects have confessed to the crime while the victim was rushed to the hospital for treatment. One more photo below.

EFCC SECURES 2,200 CONVICTIONS IN 2021.{PHOTO}.#PRESS RELEASE

EFCC Secures 2,220 Convictions in 2021 The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, secured a total of 2220 (Two Thousand Two Hundred and Twenty) convictions across all its Commands in 2021. The figure which emerged from a review of the Commission’s performance in the outgone year, shows that the Lagos Command of the Agency recorded the most convictions-481, closely followed by the Ibadan Command with 324 convictions, while the Port Harcourt Zonal Command had 230 convictions. The conviction secured by the Commission in 2021 is the highest by the EFCC Since inception. Before 2021, the highest record of conviction by the Commission was secured in 2019 with 1280 convictions. The 2220 record of 2021 is a 127.5 % improvement over the 2019 record. Interestingly too, the 2220 record represents a 98.49%  success rate in prosecution as the Commission lost only 34 cases during this period. From the start of his studies at the Med Lab Tech Dept. of the Glocal University, he was identified as a hard working, disciplined, promising and an optimistic gentle boy who was dedicated to his studies and also dear to his widowed mum. Only yesterday, Galadima was hale and hearty. Little did anyone thought what is simply a routine commute to buy stuff will lead to a car accident  We submit this to Allah and pray for his soul to be granted Jannah.

Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Sen. Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has said President Muhammadu Buhari will surprise Ndigbo with more developmental infrastructure, urging them to support him. The former Abia governor insisted that President Buhari has good intentions towards the people of the Southeast, noting that several infrastructures going on or completed by the Buhari-led federal government show that the President loves Ndigbo. President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday admitted that old age is telling on him adding that he has been rescued from the rigours of office by COVID-19 pandemic. Speaking on how he has been able to cope with the rigours of office at 79, Buhari said the outbreak of COVID-19 has reduced the number of persons he receives on a daily basis. “About my age, I see my colleagues, they are now resting and I assure you that I’m looking forward to the next 17 months when I too will have to be less busy. The age is telling on me, working now for 6, 7,8 hours per day in the office is no joke”. “The Executive Council, memos from as many states as possible to be considered virtually every week. So, really, it is a lot of hard work but like I said, I asked for so I cannot complain”.

Coke, Fanta Prices To Rise As Buhari Imposes N10/liter Excise Duty On Carbonated drinks Excise duty is a form of tax imposed on the production, licensing and sale of goods. Zainab Ahmed, minister of finance, budget and national planning, said this during the public presentation of the 2022 Appropriation Act on Wednesday in Abuja.  According to her, the new policy introduced is in the Finance Act signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari on December 31, 2021.
