WIFE ALLEGEDLY MURDERED HUSBAND AT MALUNGANE VILLAGE IN NAMAKGALE. (PHOTOS).

  Wife allegedly murdered husband at Malungane village in Namakgale  A 52-year-old woman, Orscarin Selina Hlungwani, has been charged with murder for allegedly killing her husband, Soyaphi Moses Hlungwani (63) also known as Shaka, at Malungane village in Namakgale.  After his first wife passed away, Hlungwani moved to Malungane village with Selina. The couple got into a fight on August 27, leaving Shaka bruised and lying on the floor. The family reported the incident to Namakgale police the next day at 1 pm. Selina initially appeared in court on August 30, 2024, for a formal bail application but was denied. She was denied bail again on September 4, 2024, but eventually granted R1000 bail on September 10, 2024. The late Soyaphi Moses Hlungwani was born in Nsavulani village, outside Giyani, and later relocated to Phalaborwa for work at Palabora Mining Company (PMC), a major copper producer in South Africa.   Namibian Drug Mule Arrested at OR Tambo Airport A 30-year-old Namibian woman was caught at OR Tambo International Airport with swallowed bullets of suspected drugs. This marks the tenth drug mule arrest in two months. SAPS, SARS, and immigration officials acted on intel, intercepting her upon arrival from Sao Paulo. An X-ray confirmed foreign objects in her stomach. She's released over 60 bullets of suspected cocaine so far and remains under police custody. SAPS National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola praised the team's vigilance, stating, "South Africa won't tolerate criminal activity. We're closing in on transnational organized crime."  PDP Govs Tell INEC To Respect Edo People’s Wish As the collation of the final results of the Edo State governorship continues, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors have asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to respect the wishes of the people. Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, made the call in a statement on Sunday. “As the country perches on the horns of grave economic and security challenges, it is our expectation that INEC and everyone involved in the Edo Governorship Elections will respect the sovereign wishes of the people of Edo State and spare the nation the unpredictable consequences of a disputed result at this time,” he said. “This becomes more imperative, especially in the face of the threat to democracy  by the total state capture inclination of the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress, APC government.”

 Falana Seeks Information On Completion Date Of PH, Warri, Kaduna Refineries Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has written to two contractors, Marie Tecnimont S.P.A and Saipem Contracting Nigeria Ltd to request information on the completion date for the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt, Warri & Kaduna Refineries. Copies of the letters dated Sept 17 and addressed to the Managing Directors of both firms, who were awarded the contracts of the refineries. Falana said in the letters that he confirmed that the Federal Government awarded Maire Tecnimont S.P.A. the contracts for the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt refineries for the sum of US$1.5bn while Saipem got the contracts for the Warri and Kaduna refineries for the same amount. “In line with the terms of the contract which was awarded sometime in April 2021, the project is expected to be completed in three phases of 18, 24 and 44 months,” he said.  Okpebholo set to win Edo governorship, leads Ighodalo with 48,595 votes in 16 LGs The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, is poised to win the governorship election, leading his main challenger, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), by 48,595 votes after the announcement of results from 16 local government areas. Although results from two LGAs are still pending, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced results from 16 LGAs, where Okpebholo has taken the lead. According to calculations by PM NEWS, Okpebholo has so far secured 244,549 votes, while Ighodalo has garnered 195,954 votes.  PRESS RELEASE          22/09/2024 CRIME: 21-Year-Old Scavenger destroys graves and extracts iron rods, arrested and set to be arraigned in court. On September 20, 2024, the Bauchi State Police Command arrest Dauda Saidu, a 21-year-old scavenger resident of Yelwa, for trespassing, vandalism, and theft. The detainee unlawfully entered a Christian cemetery in the Yelwan Kagadama area of Bauchi, causing damage to several graves and removing iron rods during daylight hours. Following interrogation, Saidu confessed to the offences, admitting to stealing multiple iron rods and selling them to scrap metal buyers in separate transactions, amounting to ₦9,500, ₦12,000, and ₦5,500, respectively. Saidu disclosed that the proceeds were used to purchase an undisclosed quantity of Indian hemp and food items for personal consumption.  Imo LG Election Records Low Voter Turnout Late arrival of materials and low voter turnout were some of the challenges recorded in the the local government election in Imo State on Saturday. Even though the exercise was relatively peaceful in areas monitored, some civil society groups who monitored the election say the low turnout may be due to low sensitization by the Imo state Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC). Some ISIEC officials, who spoke to Channels Television crew, said the delay in the commencement of the exercise was due to logistics problem and unforeseen circumstances. They, however, promised to extend the time of voting till everyone eligible to vote at various polling centre is given opportunity to exercise their civic responsibility.

 DHQ denies detaining naval rating for six years The Defence Headquarters has said Seaman Abbas Haruna, who was allegedly detained for six years, was never arrested. Haruna’s wife, Hussaina Iliya, had gone on a popular radio station in Abuja to accuse the military of unjustly detaining her husband since 2018. She specifically accused a senior military officer, Brig. Gen. A.S. Adamu, of ordering his detention. Her claims went viral, prompting Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to order an investigation into the matter. Days after the order, a video emerged on social media showing Haruna resisting attempts to disarm him by other personnel.  IMSU lecturers begin indefinite strike over delayed benefits The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Imo State University chapter, on Friday, embarked on an indefinite strike to press home their demands. In a release signed by its Chairperson, Comrade Odinakachukwu Ejiogu and secretary, Comrade Lazarus Chikwendu, ASUU-IMSU stated, “We are embarking on total and comprehensive indefinite strike effective Friday, 20th September. Soyinka, who turned 90 on 13 July, 2024, a milestone celebrated globally, made this statement in an exclusive interview with Larry Madowo, host of CNN’s African Voices Changemakers and Playmakers series.
