 Wale Edun to banks: Deepen access to credit for SMEs Wale Edun, minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, has called on Nigerian banks to support inclusive growth and deepen the capital market for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Edun spoke at the 2025 Fellowship Investiture of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) held in Lagos over the weekend, themed ‘Banking Beyond Borders: Leveraging Technological Innovation for Enhanced Performance’. The minister said although the economy is recording sustained growth, more effort is required to ensure inclusivity through job creation and access to finance. “We now have what I would say is mr. President’s agenda. Rapid growth accelerating well above 4 percent, and we look for it to continue,” he said.

 Reconstruction of Lagos-Abeokuta expressway over 50% completed, says contractor  Craneburg Construction Limited, the contractor handling the reconstruction of the Lagos–Abeokuta expressway, has assured that the project will be completed within record time. Pierre Andary, the project manager of Craneburg, spoke during an inspection tour of ongoing reconstruction projects in Itori, Ewekoro local government area, Ogun state, led by Ade Akinsanya, the commissioner for works and infrastructure. The company gave the assurance as the Ogun state government reiterated its commitment to delivering durable road infrastructure across the state.

 Resident doctors fault FG’s N11.9bn release, say strike still on The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) says its nationwide strike will continue until the federal government provides clarity on the implementation of its minimum demands. Speaking with TheCable on Monday, Muhammad Suleiman, NARD president, said they are yet to receive communication from the government. “We are still waiting to hear from the federal government on how they intend to implement some of the things that we have put in our minimum demand. So, the strike is still on,” he said.

 A South Carolina man crashed his car near a school, exited his vehicle, and used his head to break out a window, then scuffled with a teacher before grabbing a child and attempting to flee on Halloween.  This dramatic incident took place at the Chester Park School Complex in Chester, South Carolina.  According to reports on Friday, afternoon 20-year-old D'arrius Edwards crashed his vehicle into a stand of trees near the school complex.  D'arrius then exited his vehicle and calmly made his way onto the playground, and approached the building.   He then walked up to the widow of a classroom full of children. After briefly gazing into the window, D'arrius used his head to bust out the window and entered the building. Three teachers were in the room at the time, and one faculty member immediately began to engage in a physical struggle with D'arrius.  If you are going to party like it's 1899, apparently you will face consequences like it's 2025.  Indiana teen facing OWI (operating while intoxicated) charges after causing a head-on horse-drawn buggy collision. Adult family members are facing charges for providing the alcohol to the underage teens. On Saturday (a little after midnight) first responders in Adam's County, Indiana, responded to an unusual accident. Two horse-drawn carriages were involved in a literal "head-on" collision. As authorities arrived on the scene, they discovered an unconscious 19-year-old male. The 19-year-old was missing his two front teeth from the wreck.  He was taken to a Fort Wayne Hospital where it was determined he also had suffered a concussion and multiple abrasions and bruises.  Deputies quickly determined the 19-year-old had been to a birthday party where he had consumed alcohol.  After leaving the party, the 19-year-old had attempted to pass another horse-drawn buggy in fro...

 Guinea's junta leader to stand for president Guinea's junta leader Mamady Doumbouya put his name forward on Monday to stand in presidential elections on December 28, a move that could keep him in power for another five years, Reuters reported. Doumbouya had vowed not to run when he seized power in the West African country in 2021. But a new constitution pushed by the junta and approved in a referendum in September opened the door to his candidacy. The new charter replaced arrangements agreed after the coup that had barred members of the junta from contesting elections. It also requires presidential candidates to live in Guinea and be between 40 and 80 years old.
