 Taraba: Police Commissioner Calls for Peaceful Coexistence Between Herders and Farmers The Taraba State Commissioner of Police, Ukachi Peter Opara, has urged for greater peace and understanding between herders and farmers in the state. During a meeting with the leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Jalingo on Thursday, Opara highlighted the importance of dialogue and cooperation for long-term development. He emphasized that peaceful coexistence between these groups is crucial for their livelihoods and for fostering economic growth and stability in the state and the nation. Opara commended MACBAN for its readiness to collaborate with the police in promoting peace and security in Taraba. He reassured that the police would continue to work diligently to protect lives and property and pledged to leave no stone unturned in maintaining peace and stability in the state. Kaduna Bandits Demand N50m In 48hrs; Vow To Kill Mother, Baby, 2 Sisters  The family of a pregnant housewife that gave birth in captivity, the new baby and her 2 sisters in Kaduna were given a 48hrs ultimatum to pay N50 million ransom by bandits or receive the corpses. KDSG Security Update: Tuesday 27th September 2022.  Troops rescue seven citizens in Kaduna   Troops of Operation Forest Sanity have rescued seven kidnapped persons during a fighting patrol spanning Birnin Gwari and Chikun LGAs.  According to an operational feedback, the troops came under fire from bandits while on patrol along the Birnin Gwari-Gayam-Kuriga-Manini axis. The troops returned fire and promptly subdued the bandits, who fled into the forests, leaving behind the captives in their custody.  The troops then rescued the seven victims, who are identified as follows: - Joseph Ishaku  - John Bulus - Gloria Shedrack (and her four children):  - Jimre Shedrack - Jonathan Shedrack  - Angelina Shedrack  - Abigail Shedrack  The Government of Kaduna State commended the troops and thanked them for their brave efforts in rescuing the victims.  The seven victims have been reunited with their families. EFCC Arraigns Kwara Civil Servant for Defrauding, Issuing Fake Appointment Letters to 23 Church Members The Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC has arraigned a 53 -year old civil servant: Oyawoye R. Olajumoke Fafemi, for allegedly defrauding 23 (twenty three) church members seeking employment. Fafemi, a staff of Kwara State Ministry of Finance, was arraigned before Justice Mohammed Sani of the Federal High Court, sitting in Ilorin on Monday, September 26, 2022 on four -count charges, bordering on employment and Hajj pilgrimage scam. The defendant was accused of collecting various sums of money from 23 members of the Christ Apostolic Church in Offa, Kwara State, under the guise of helping them secure employment in the Kwara State Civil Service Commission and Federal Government Parastatals.  Investigations revealed that Fafemi issued employment letters to her victims. Gunmen attack military checkpoint in Enugu Barely three weeks after gunmen shot and killed about three policemen at New Haven area of Enugu State, hoodlums have attacked a military checkpoint at Obeagu-Amodu road in Enugu South local government area. It was gathered the gunmen stormed the area in two Lexus RX SUV and one Toyota Sienna bus around 7:25 am on Tuesday. They reportedly opened fire at the combined team of police and military. Sources told our correspondent that the incident left behind a number of casualties. ASUU Strike: Court Strikes Out Suit Against Varsity Lecturers The National Industrial Court Abuja has struck out a suit instituted by one Umar Lawal, asking the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call off its seven-month strike and return to classrooms. Lawal, who claimed to be the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, had instituted the case on behalf of himself and the association. Justice Polycarp Hamman, however, struck out the suit on Tuesday after the counsel for Lawal, Debo Ikuesan, withdrew the suit on the grounds that the students’ body is challenging his position as president, denying that he is the leader of NANS as he had deposed to.
