 Dolly Parton returns to public eye to celebrate opening day at Dollywood     Dolly Parton made her first public appearance in months to celebrate the opening day of Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on Friday. The country music icon reflected on the past year, a year after the death of her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, saying she is “doing good” and has been working to rebuild herself spiritually, emotionally, and physically after grieving and dealing with health issues that kept her from touring. Joined on stage by Dollywood president Eugene Naughton, Parton brought her trademark humor to the crowd, joking about rumors of a new husband while reaffirming her devotion to Dean. She also shared updates on her ongoing projects, including a new Broadway musical and her Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum in Nashville.  LASG BEGINS DISTRIBUTION OF TEXTBOOKS TO PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS, REINFORCING COMMITMENT TO QUALITY EDUCATION


The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, has commenced the distribution of textbooks to public secondary schools across the state. This initiative aims to democratize access to quality education and empower students with the necessary tools to excel academically.


Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Jamiu Alli-Balogun, emphasised the transformative power of education in shaping the destiny of individuals, communities, and nations at the launch event, held at the Lagos State Education Resource Centre, Ojodu-Berger, Lagos.


He noted that the provision of textbooks is a strategic investment in the future of Lagos' children, fostering a culture of meritocracy and aligning with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda.


The initiative, which will be in phases, prioritises Education and Technology, Social Inclusion, and Youth Development, strengthening students' proficiency in English Language and Mathematics, reducing financial burdens on parents, and promoting equity and inclusivity. 


Alli-Balogun emphasised that the textbook distribution demonstrates the State Government's commitment to quality education, capacity building, and student empowerment.


The Lagos State Government's initiative reinforces its position as a trailblazer in public education delivery in Nigeria, aiming to yield improved academic performance, increased motivation, and greater equity in access to learning materials.


The event was attended by top government officials, education stakeholders, school administrators, and representatives of various districts.
