Abia State Community Policing Vigilante has arrested an electric cable thief, simply identified as Samuel, while vandalizing power installations along Isi Court-Ikputu road in Isiala Ngwa area. While two out of the three thieves escaped with their operational tricycle, the leader of the syndicate identified as Samuel, from Ebonyi State was apprehended by the Community Policing Vigilante. The arrest of the suspect was made known by the Commander of Abia State Community Policing Vigilante in the area, K.C. Martins. Martins, who said that efforts have been intensified by his men to arrest the two fleeing members of the criminal gang, commended Governor Alex Otti’s administration’s determination protecting the lives and property of the people in the State.   An Upper Area Court, sitting in Wannune,Tarka LGA, of Benue State, presided over by Aaga Torkaa ,Esq has on Wednesday 3rd March, 2021, convicted a road traffic offender whose name was given as Mr Suaga J Terkumbur for assaulting an operative of the Federal Road Safety Corps diligently carrying out his lawful duty along Wannune - Gboko Road on 9th January 2021. The offender who was convicted on a 3 count charge resulting to bagging nine (9) months imprisonment was handed an option of fine amounting to the sum of N9,000.00. The Upper Area Court also gave Mr Torkaa other conditions for bail, including the payment of the sum of N25,000.00 being the medical bill accrued as a result of the the injuries he inflicted on the Marshal Operative during the assault, and another sum of N5,000.00 as compensation for the uniform of the Staff that he tore.   Veteran actor Sadiq Daba, who became a household in Nigeria for his role as Bitrus in the NTA drama series  Cock Crow at Dawn,  has died. He died on Wednesday evening at his Marwa Garden residence in Alausa, Lagos State. “Yes, he is dead. May his soul rest in peace,” an actor close to him said in a message to this online newspaper. Mr Daba had been ill with leukemia and prostate cancer for years before his death He reached out to the public for financial assistance for medical treatment in October 2019. A new statue of The Queen by sculptor Robert Hannaford AM (Member of the Order of Australia) has been installed at Government House in Adelaide, South Australia. Her Majesty virtually unveiled the statue during a video meeting earlier last week with the Governor of South Australia, His Excellency the Hon. Hieu Van Le and the Premier Steven Marshall. The Queen also received an update on the region’s Covid-19 response and the lifting of restrictions in South Australia.   The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Benin Zonal Office on Wednesday March 3, 2021 arraigned one Hope Aroti before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court sitting in Warri, Delta State. Aroti was arraigned on a four count charge bordering on conspiracy to commit money laundering. Arotu is alleged to have used her bank account to receive over N6million of illicit fund from her co-defendant. One of the counts reads: “that you Hope Aroti (F) and Oreva Oghenevokwe Emmanuel, sometimes in June 2019 at Warri within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did commit felony to wit: conspiracy to commit money laundering and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 8(a)of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as Amended) and punishable under Section 15(2)of the same Act”.   Justice Lewis Allagoa of the Federal High Court, Kano on March 2, 2021 convicted one Maryam Abu Shinga on one count amended charge of retention of proceeds of crime. She was also ordered to pay the sum of N110, 000,000 in restitution to victims The convict was said to have lured her victims into a phony gold mining investment where she represented that the investor stands to earn 300% profit. She claimed that when an investor invests N500, 000, such investor could earn N1, 500,000 (One Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira Only) as returns on investment over a period of 4 weeks. Investigation, however, revealed that the convict was never into gold mining or any such investment.
