APPLE'S STATEMENT ON MINERALS MUST BE 'VERIFIED'-DRC. (PHOTO).

 Apple's statement on minerals must be 'verified': DRC International lawyers for the Democratic Republic of Congo welcomed Apple's decision to stop sourcing minerals from there due to worsening conflict, but said they would press ahead with their cases against the company in Europe. Criminal complaints were filed against Apple subsidiaries in France and Belgium this week on behalf of DR Congo, accusing the tech firm of using conflict minerals in its supply chain, Reuters reported. DR Congo is a major source of tin, tantalum and tungsten, so-called 3T minerals used in computers and mobile phones. But some artisanal mines are run by armed groups involved in massacres, rapes and other crimes, say UN experts and rights groups. 'Satisfaction and caution' Apple said on Tuesday that it strongly disputes the claims and has told suppliers they must not use the minerals in question sourced from DR Congo or Rwanda.        Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose meets with community leaders in the five selected local Government areas in the state for the first phase of the Ekiti free health care. The meeting was held strategically to involve every member of the communities especially at the grassroot level in the free medical outreach programme initiated by Fayose administration. Present at the meeting are traditional heads, heads of market women, religious leaders, council chairmen, party members and serving corp members in medical field.       A lot of half-truths, misinformation, and outright falsehood have attended the announcement of a new Director-General for the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), in the person of Mr Ahmed Rufai Abubakar . Some of such unfounded stories include that Abubakar had retired from the services of NIA as an Assistant Director, because he failed promotion examinations twice, and had to quit, willy-nilly. Others claim he is married to a Moroccan, and so cannot hold such sensitive security position, while others say he was born and bred in Chad, and he holds dual nationality.         Troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE involved in Operation DEEP PUNCH II have continued to deal decisively with remnants of Boko Haram terrorists hibernating in Sambisa forest and other parts of Northern Borno State with tremendous successes. On Friday 26th January 2018 afternoon, the troops with effe ctive support from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), had contact with the terrorists while advancing into Sambisa forest. During the encounter and further exploitation, the troops destroyed Boko Haram terrorists equipment, make-shift accommodation around Camp Zairo, Improvised Explosives Device (IEDs), Booby traps, other delaying obstacles and devices. The troops also neutralized 7 Boko Haram terrorists and wounded several others.          The Lagos State Sports Commission and the entire Lagos sports family will on Sunday hold a candle light procession for the late Deji Tinubu at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall of the Teslim Balogun, Surulere. The late Tinubu, who died suddenly on Thursday after slumping during a novelty football match, was a pioneer chairman of the Sports Commission and Special Adviser on Sports to Go vernor Akinwunmi Ambode. He was redeployed by Governor as Special Adviser on Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, the post he held until his death. The candle light procession is being held in honour of the deceased whose tenure as the Executive Chairman of the Commission saw good development in Lagos sports.
