The Fort Worth Police Department was called to a home on Farmers Branch Street at 1:30 p.m. on April 18th. Police were responding to perform a welfare check after they were contacted by a friend of 23-year-old Alexander Valdez (pictured below). The friend informed police that Valdez had sent a disturbing image to a group chat that appeared to show a very injured, possibly deceased woman.
When officers arrived, Valdez answered the door covered in blood and carrying a Bible. When police asked why he was covered in blood he told them, "it was an exorcism". When pressed he went on to say, "I was doing witchcraft to k*** my mom".
Once police made entry to the home they discovered Valdez's mother, 58-year-old Tersita Sayson, suffering from significant trauma to her head and upper body. There was also a deceased dog in the room with Ms. Sayson. Tersita Sayson was pronounced deceased on scene and the medical examiner listed her as dying from blunt force trauma.
Police found a jewelry box inside of the home covered in blood and hair, authorities believe this to be the weapon used in the fatal attack.
Alexander Valdez was taken into custody but refused to answer questions and asked for an attorney. He was booked into Tarrant County Jail on a murder charge and had a bond set at $750,000.
Our thoughts are with everyone involved in this heartbreaking case.
