AN INDIANA MAN HAS BEEN ARRESTED WHEN A TODDLER WAS FOUND SUFFERING FROM FROSTBITE AND HYPOTHERMIA AFTER NEIGHBORS REPORTED THE CHILD WAS WANDERING AROUND IN ONLY A DIAPER. (PHOTO).

An Indiana man has been arrested when a toddler was found suffering from frostbite and hypothermia after neighbors reported the child was wandering around in only a diaper.

Police in Greenfield, Indiana, were called to the Prairie Meadow apartment complex at approximately 3 p.m. on Monday, December 15th. They had received reports of a toddler "wandering around the complex in only a diaper while outside temps were a freezing 13 degrees".

When officers arrived, they quickly located the toddler and placed them in a warm vehicle until EMS arrived. It would soon be discovered that the child was suffering from hypothermia and had frostbite on their fingers and toes.

After making sure the child was safe, officers began to investigate the scene. They were able to locate footprints that seemed to indicate the child had been walking around outside for quite a while. Those footprints would lead officers to an apartment on Switchgrass drive with an open front door.

Officers repeatedly announced their presence to no response.  Ultimately, they entered the residence for a security check where they discovered 20-year-old Logan Nickolas asleep on the couch.  Police also noticed a hand gun on the counter and a plate with a straw on it that appeared to have been used to ingest cocaine.

Logan admitted the child was under his care at the time but denied drug use; telling police he had dozed off due to a late night schedule.

Police were able to contact the child's mother at work who told them she had been letting Logan stay at the home off and on the past week. She said she had tried to contact Logan several times while she was at work but couldn't get a response.  The mother went on to tell authorities Logan had been on a drug bender while staying with her smoking marijuana and doing cocaine and also "any other type of drug he could get his hands on".

Logan Nickolas was arrested on scene and is being charged with neglect of a dependent, resulting in bodily injury and neglect of a dependent in a situation that endangers them.

Logan Nickolas was booked into the Hancock County Jail.

There is no information on whether the mother will face any repercussions for leaving her child with Logan.
