 Anambra to go after houses without proper drainage in order to combat Erosion  Worried by the rising menace of gully erosion, the Anambra State Government has threatened to enforce regulations requiring residents to provide proper drainage for storm water from their homes. The State Executive Council (ANSEC), which announced the proposed enforcement, lamented that erosion remains an existential challenge in Anambra, blaming the situation on careless actions by some communities and lapses by regulatory bodies in enforcing environmental laws. Briefing journalists after the weekly executive council meeting, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, said it had been observed that some residents channel storm water from their homes directly onto roads, where it accumulates and worsens the erosion crisis across the state. “ANSEC has resolved to step up enforcement to compel residents to properly channel and manage storm water from their houses. LAGOS SS3 STUDENTS TO RESUME FOR EXTRA CLASSES ON THE 5TH OF SEPT,AHEAD OF THE MOCK EXAMS.

                     As part of efforts to improve on the performance of students in both internal and external examinations in the State public schools,the Lagos State Ministry of Education has directed all students promoted to SS3 to resume on Monday,September 5,2016 for a week extra coaching classes slated for September 5-9,2016.The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr Adesina Odeyemi disclosed this recently,noting that the resumption ahead of the 19th September,general resumption date,was to prepare them for the Mock Examination which will determine the students who will be registered for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination {WASSCE} in 2017.While maintaining the mock examinations will start with practical papers from wednesday,September 14 to Friday,September 16,the theory aspect will commence on Monday,September 19,2016.The permanent Secretary urged the students to attend the extra coaching and be punctual as attendance will be strictly monitored,adding that this was the only way they could appreciate the commitments of the State public school teachers who brave all odds to embrace a better future for the children and encourage them to achieve more in the sector.He also appealed to parents to assist government by providing basic needs to their children/wards such as books,school uniforms and all learning materials,a well as counsel their wards to ensure good upbringing while urging them to also set aside their time to show interest in their children/wards academic activities.
