 Suspected ADF rebels kill 19 people in eastern DRC- military Suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels have killed 14 government soldiers and five civilians in an ambush in DR Congo's volatile east, officials and a local source told AFP on Tuesday. The ADF staged an ambush in the village of Banju-Banju in the Democratic Republic of Congo's northeastern Ituri province exactly a week ago, they said. "We lost 14 FARDC personnel," Colonel Matadi Muyapandi, a local police administrator, told AFP, using the French acronym for the DRC's armed forces, adding that it took several days to recover and bury the bodies. Generating sexual images of someone without their consent, including through the use of AI, will become a criminal offence in the UK this week.  Science and Tech Secretary Liz Kendall made the announcement on Monday, Jan. 12, after widespread anger over pictures made using Elon Musk’s chatbot Grok.  Male users of Musk’s  social media site X have been asking the AI software, Grok, to remove the clothing from an image of any person – with women and children among the targets.  Two UK cabinet ministers had also been victims of the twisted trend.  Controversial singer, Portable, was on Monday arraigned at the Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State, on a nine-count criminal charge. According to Ogun State Police spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the charges include assault, theft, causing harm, and resisting arrest. His arraignment follows a viral video on Sunday showing the singer in police custody, reportedly linked to a complaint filed by his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple. The prosecution alleged that Portable attacked Ashabi alongside several police officers and other individuals at his bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area on New Year’s Day.  20 Residents Killed, Scores Abducted As Bandits Attack Communities In Kauru No fewer than 20 residents have been killed and several others abducted following coordinated bandit attacks on multiple communities in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Sahara Reporters has reported. The delivery came after the U.S. carried out a strike targeting Islamic State militants in northwest Nigeria last month. AFRICOM said in a post on X that the delivery in the Nigerian capital Abuja "supports Nigeria's ongoing operations and emphasises our shared security partnership".  Ekpoma Protest: Police Shut Out Journalists as 52 Suspects Arraigned Security operatives on Monday barred journalists from accessing the Edo State High (Criminal) Court II during the arraignment of 52 suspects arrested over last Saturday’s violent protest in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State. The suspects were conveyed to the court in a Black Maria van and brought before the court through an ex parte motion filed by police counsel, P. O. Odion. Armed security personnel, who maintained a heavy presence at the court premises, told journalists they were acting on instructions to allow only legal practitioners into the courtroom. Presiding over the matter, William Aziegbemi declined jurisdiction, ordered that the suspects be remanded at the Ubiaja Correctional Centre, and adjourned the case to February 26, 2026.  MOTHER'S WARNING SAVES DAUGHTER FROM SUSPECTED ABDUCTION IN MAKURDI  A timely warning by a Makurdi resident, Mrs Janice Ngumom Pine, on Monday saved her daughter from a suspected abduction attempt by a commercial motorcyclist in Benue State. The incident, which occurred around the Wurukum axis of Makurdi, followed a disturbing story Mrs Pine had earlier read on social media about a woman who narrowly escaped being killed after being lured to Awe Street by a motorcyclist. Moved by the account, Mrs Pine said she immediately forwarded the story to her daughter, advising her to be vigilant while commuting. According to her, the warning proved crucial when her daughter boarded a motorcycle from Gboko Road to High Level. As they approached Wurukum, the rider allegedly requested permission to divert to Awe Street to pick up a parcel.  FIRE RAZES 5 HOUSES NEAR DIVINE MERCY SECONDARY SCHOOL, ZAKI-BIAM  13th January, 2026     No fewer than five houses were on Tuesday razed by fire following an outbreak behind Divine Mercy Secondary School, Zaki-Biam, in Benue State. The inferno reportedly engulfed the residential buildings within minutes, destroying household items and other valuables estimated to be worth millions of naira. Eyewitnesses said residents were thrown into panic as the fire spread rapidly, leaving little or no opportunity to salvage personal belongings. Although no casualty has been reported, the cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained as of the time of filing this report. Meanwhile, affected residents have appealed to the state government and public-spirited individuals for assistance to cushion the impact of the loss. More photos below.

The presidential initiative targets recruitment of thirteen youths from across the thirteen local  government areas in Nasarawa state so as to strengthen local capacity for health system reform and improved service delivery especially for the rural dwellers. The National health fellows programme, a presidential initiative is being implemented by the federal ministry of health and social welfare in collaboration with states ministry of health and other development partners.  Industrial Court Orders Reinstatement of Enugu Hospital MD The National Industrial Court Abuja division has ordered the reinstatement of Professor Monday Igwe as the medical director of the federal neuropsychiatric hospital, Enugu, declaring the termination of his appointment unlawful, null and void. Take caption: Justice Emmanuel Subilim gave the order while delivering a verdict in suit between professor Monday Igwe as claimant and 7 other defendants.  The court also voided the appointment of dr Unaogu Nneka as substantive medical director of the hospital during the pendency of the suit, describing the action as overreaching and unlawful.   Justice Emmanuel Subilim held that prof Igwe had successfully proved his case against the defendants in the matter and thereafter ordered his reinstatement as medical director of the institution to complete his remaining three years and five months in office.   The court also  ordered payment of prof Igwe's emoluments from ...
