  Peter Obi, ADC Team Reportedly Escapes Assassination Attempt in Benin, Edo State The Obidient Movement has raised alarm over an alleged attack on Peter Obi and members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benin City. According to a message shares by the Obidient Movement’s Coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, disclosed that armed individuals reportedly trailed Mr. Obi and the ADC delegation from the party’s secretariat as they moved to formally welcome Olumide Akpata into the ADC. Melvin Trotter, 65, is set to receive a three-drug lethal injection at Florida State Prison near Starke, beginning at 6 p.m. Trotter was first convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death in 1987, but the Florida Supreme Court ordered a new sentencing after finding errors in how the trial court handled aggravating factors. He was resentenced to death in 1993. Court records show that Trotter strangled and stabbed Virgie Langford at her Palmetto store. Police in Uganda 🇺🇬 have arrested two women for kissing in public. The women have reportedly been held in custody since February 18 without legal representation under Uganda’s 2023 Anti-Homosexuality Act legislation that imposes severe penalties, ranging from life imprisonment to the death penalty in cases classified as “aggravated homosexuality.” According to authorities, neighbors accused the pair of “practicing homosexuality” and claimed to have taken photographs as evidence. Police further stated that several women were observed visiting their residence. However, reports indicate that a search of the home did not uncover any incriminating evidence. Investigations are said to be ongoing. Human rights advocates have strongly condemned the arrests, arguing that the law is contributing to fear, blackmail, and extortion, particularly targeting members of the LGBTQ+ community.

 GOV YUSUF INAUGURATES 40 KANO LINE BUSES Kano Line, the state owned transport company, operates multiple routes across twenty-four states in Nigeria and some neighbouring West African countries. For several months, forty 18-seater buses in its fleet were out of operation due to various technical faults. In line with the state government’s broader agenda to strengthen public infrastructure, create employment opportunities, and ease transportation challenges, the buses have now been fully refurbished and are ready to hit the road. During a brief inauguration ceremony, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf described the initiative as part of his administration’s commitment to restoring efficiency and dignity to state-owned enterprises while generating job opportunities for youths.  El-Rufai Reportedly Suffers Nosebleed In Detention, Wife Barred From Delivering Meal – Aide Nasir El-Rufai’s media adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, has expressed concern over the former governor’s condition while in custody, alleging that he experienced a nosebleed and that his wife was prevented from handing his meal to him directly. In a statement released on Monday, Adekeye said El-Rufai has been detained for eight days after voluntarily honoring an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on February 16, 2026.  FG, Kaduna To Invest ₦40bn In Ginger Processing Hub — Senator Katung The Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Sunday Marshall Katung, has announced that the Federal Government, in collaboration with the Kaduna State Government, has finalised plans to establish a ₦40 billion ginger production and processing hub in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State. In a statement issued on Monday, Katung described the project as a significant agricultural milestone for the district.  He noted that, upon completion, the facility is expected to become the largest ginger processing hub in Africa. According to the lawmaker, the Kaduna State Government has committed ₦20 billion to the initiative, while the Federal Government will provide the remaining funds as part of efforts to promote agro-industrialisation and drive economic growth in Southern Kaduna.  SENATE SEEKS ADDITIONAL 30 BILLION NAIRA FOR INEC TO CONDUCT 2027 ELECTION  The Senate committee on electoral matters is requesting for an additional 30 billion naira to the Independent National Electoral Commission for the conduct of the 2027 General  election. INEC had initially proposed 873 billion for the elections. National assembly correspondent Lami Ali reports that reasons for the increase are with regards to logistics for efficiency.

 LAGOS MAKES 46 MORE ARRESTS FOR OPEN DEFECATION The Lagos State Government, through its Anti-Open Defecation Squad, has apprehended 46 male and female offenders during coordinated early morning operations across Lagos Island. Making this known on Sunday, MD/CEO LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin said that the arrests were made between 20th and 22nd February 2026 during routine monitoring exercises around Ebute Ero and adjoining areas, including Apongbon, Isale Eko, Marina, CMS, Obalende and Adeniji Adele. His words: "On 20th February, 20 offenders were apprehended; 15 additional suspects were arrested on 21st February; while 11 more were picked up on 22nd February during sustained surveillance operations targeting habitual open defecation blackspots". According to him, all suspects had been transferred to the headquarters of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) in Oshodi for further investigation and prosecution in accordance with the environmental laws of Lagos...
