A 3-day training workshop/ induction organised by the Benue Public Service Institute, Makurdi started on Tuesday for the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries, with a call on the participants to be equipped so as to work harder in the implementation of the Governor Hyacinth Alia’s 7-point agenda.

Addressing the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries, the Director General (DG) of the Institute, Professor Terkura Tarnande, said the performance of the Permanent Secretaries depended largely on how they are equipped, stressing that the training workshop/ induction was a deliberate measure to equip the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries to perform maximally.

The DG, who emphasized that the success of any responsible government could be traced to the civil servants, noted that government policies no matter how beautiful they appear would not be efficiently and effectively implemented without civil servants.

Professor Tarnande disclosed that the Governor Alia led administration attaches great importance to civil service which explained why he has also prioritized the training of Permanent Secretaries who are to superintend over the affairs of the various ministries, departments and agencies.

Professor Tarnande assured that the Institute has recruited qualified, efficient and experienced resource persons to train the participants to make them efficient in executing the seven point strategic plan of the Governor Alia’s administration.

He revealed that the Institute would not conduct trainings and abandon the trainees but would go further in monitoring them to ensure that the knowledge acquired at the training is put to use in transforming the civil service as we as contribute to build Benue State for the benefit of all.

A participant to the training workshop, Dr. Philip Nongo, while appreciating the governor for finding him worthy of appointment as Permanent Secretary, also spoke on the importance of the training saying that the training was capable of equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to carryout their assignment with ease.

Other participants and Permanent Secretaries designate, Mrs. Hellen Nambativ and Mrs. Deborah Amine in their separate comments noted with delight that the training was of immense importance as according to them the training would enable them to function better in their new assignment.
