 ANAMBRA POLICE COMMAND RECEIVES AND AUGMENTS IGP’S MONITORING UNIT OPERATIVES ON ENFORCEMENT OF POLICE PERSONNEL WITHDRAWAL FROM VIP ESCORT DUTIES IN THE STATE The Anambra State Police Command today 8th December 2025 formally received operatives of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP)’s Monitoring Unit deployed to the state to ensure full implementation of the IGP’s directive on the withdrawal of police personnel from VIP escort and guard duties. The Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc mnips PhD reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to supporting the IGP’s reform efforts targeted at enhancing professionalism, discipline, and optimal deployment of police manpower nationwide. The CP noted that the withdrawal of these officers will help to strengthen public policing, improve response capacity, and ensure that more personnel are available for core policing duties across the state.  𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐂 𝐊𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐬 𝐎𝐟𝐟 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬


The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun implementing some of the recommendations made by stakeholders following the 2023 general elections. 


This announcement was made by INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, during a visit from the new European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, in Abuja.


According to Yakubu, INEC has already started reviewing its planning tools, including the Strategic Plan and the Election Project Plan, to improve future elections. 


Since the 2023 elections, the commission has received reports from numerous national and international observer groups, including the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU-EOM).


These stakeholders have made a total of 23 recommendations, with eight requiring action from INEC and 15 needing action from other stakeholders, including the executive, judiciary, legislature, civil society organisations, media, faith-based organisations, and political parties. 


By implementing these recommendations, INEC aims to enhance the integrity and efficiency of Nigeria's electoral process.
