LAGOS MINISTRY SETS PACE IN WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT.

In a significant display of commitment to human capital development, the Lagos State Ministry of Establishments and Training has, within the first two months of 2025, successfully conducted five high-impact training programmes for officers in the State Civil Service between Grade Levels 13 and 17. This unprecedented pace of capacity-building indicates the Ministry’s dedication to equipping public servants with the necessary skills to perform optimally in service delivery.

Amongst the training programmes rolled out so far are “Leading in a Digital Age”, which focuses on preparing civil servants for leadership roles in an increasingly technology-driven world; “Effective Communication Skills and Emotional Intelligence”, designed to enhance interpersonal relationships and workplace efficiency, and “Enhancing Productivity and Integrity in a Smart City”, which emphasises the principles of efficiency, accountability and ethical governance as Lagos continues its transition into a globally competitive smart city.

Other programmes undertaken include “Managing People for Strategic Advantage in the Public Service,” which aims to strengthen leadership and human resource management within government institutions, and the “Intrapreneurial Training Programme,” which encourages innovation and problem-solving within the civil service by instilling an entrepreneurial mindset.

The Honourable Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo expressed immense satisfaction with the Ministry’s progress, emphasising that the government remains committed to promoting a highly skilled and adaptable workforce.

According to him, the rapid execution of these training programmes is a demonstration of the State Government’s resolve to build a public service that is not only competent but also progressive. “The pace at which we are equipping our workforce with the right skills is unparalleled. In just two months, we have delivered five transformative programmes, and this is only the beginning. Lagos will continue to lead in human capital development,” he stated.

The initiative has been met with widespread commendation from participants, many of whom have described the training sessions as timely, relevant, and impactful. A Grade Level 15 officer who attended the “Managing People for Strategic Advantage” programme noted that the sessions provided practical insights into leadership, decision-making and human resource management, adding that the knowledge gained would significantly enhance his effectiveness in his workplace.

With more training programmes planned for the months ahead, the Ministry has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining this momentum and ensuring that officers at all civil service levels receive the necessary exposure and skills required for excellence. These efforts align with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision of a highly skilled and responsive public service, capable of driving Lagos State’s ambitious developmental agenda.

As Lagos continues to set the pace in governance and public sector efficiency, the investment in human capital remains a critical pillar for sustainable progress. The Ministry of Establishments and Training’s proactive approach signals a future where the Lagos State Civil Service is more dynamic, innovative, and prepared to meet the challenges of the modern world.
