Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported.  CAPACITY-BUILDING: LAGOS IDENTIFIES 5000 TEACHERS FOR TRAINING IN CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY

Building upon the commitments outlined in the Basic and Secondary Education Ministry's Ministerial Press Briefing held on Thursday to commemorate the sixth anniversary of the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration, the Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) is set to launch a comprehensive programme of initiatives aimed at empowering its teaching workforce and fostering a dynamic educational environment.

As a follow up to the Ministry's press briefing, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Teaching Service Commission, Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila explained that TESCOM will train a first batch of 5,000 teachers out of its 18,438 educators in the State.

The Permanent Secretary said the ambitious capacity-building programme will equip teachers with the latest pedagogical approaches and subject-matter expertise to enhance the quality of teaching in Lagos State's post-primary schools.

Furthermore, in an innovative move to foster cross-pollination of best practices, TESCOM is designing an Exchange Programme between teachers in public and private post-primary schools, a unique initiative to synchronise teaching methodologies and create a more cohesive and effective secondary education landscape across Lagos.

Noting that technology is essential in modern education, Oyekan-Ismaila hinted that TESCOM is set to distribute 1,000 essential devices to teachers across the Education Districts.

Her words: "This strategic provision of tools aims to empower educators to integrate technology seamlessly into their teaching practices and enrich the learning experience for students."

Speaking further, the Permanent Secretary said a Teachers Conference will soon be held to serve as a platform for dialogue and direct interaction with the Ministry's leadership.

While expressing delight that these forward-thinking initiatives of TESCOM aligned with the Basic and Secondary Education Ministry's focus on teacher empowerment and innovation, Oyekan-Ismaila affirmed that Lagos State is unwavering in its commitment to providing students with world-class educational standards.
