Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported.  Threads launches ads for all users globally

Meta announced Wednesday that it is rolling out ads on Threads to all users worldwide. The rollout will begin next week and will be gradual, with the company noting that it could take several months before ads reach every user.

Threads, Meta’s social app and rival to X, has grown rapidly since its July 2023 launch, now reaching over 400 million monthly active users. The app hit 200 million users by mid-2024, 320 million by January 2025, and added another 30 million users last April. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has touted Threads as a potential billion-user platform in the coming years.

Ads on Threads have been in testing for some time. The platform first experimented with ads in the U.S. and Japan a year ago, then opened global advertising to brands last April. Advertisers can easily expand campaigns to Threads through Meta’s Advantage+ program or manual setups, using image and video formats, including carousel ads and the 4:5 aspect ratio. Ads on Threads can be managed alongside Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp campaigns in Meta’s Business Settings.

Meta is also extending third-party verification tools, already used on Facebook and Instagram, to Threads. This allows advertisers to confirm brand safety and suitability for the feed. While the company didn’t specify how frequently users will see ads, it said initial ad delivery will remain “low” as the feature scales globally.
