 Renowned 20th-century philosopher Jürgen Habermas dies at 96 Jürgen Habermas, the German philosopher widely recognized for his contributions to modern political thought and democratic theory, died Saturday in Starnberg, Germany, at the age of 96. His passing was confirmed in a statement by his Berlin-based publisher, Suhrkamp Verlag, which noted that Habermas’s work, translated into more than 40 languages, had left a lasting impact on global intellectual discourse. Jonathan Landgrebe, head of the publishing house, described him as “a significant philosopher, ever-present advisor, and dear friend.” For more than six decades, Habermas helped shape postwar and post-reunification German political life. He is best known for conceptualizing the “public sphere,” a domain for discussion free from state influence, which he argued is essential for a functioning democracy. 2023: I'LL RUN FOR PRESIDENT IF PDP ZONES ITS TICKET TO SOUTHERN REGION- PETER OBI. (PHOTO).

Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, says he will run for the post of Nigeria’s President in 2023 if his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, zones its ticket to the Southern region of the country.

Obi, the running mate of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 presidential election, made this known in a terse tweet on Tuesday.

He wrote, “Yes, I will step into the field to contest for the opportunity to serve this great country as President if my party, the @OfficialPDPNig, zones the ticket to the south. But if it is thrown open, Nigerians will also hear from me.”
