 ANAMBRA POLICE ACTION ON THE CULT CLASH THAT RESULTED IN THE FATAL INJURY OF FOUR PERSONS AT AFOR NAWFIA MARKET The Anambra State Police Command wishes to provide a comprehensive update on the cult-related attack that occurred on the evening of 7th December 2025 at Afor Nawfia Market, along the Onitsha–Awka Old Road. It will be recalled that operatives of the Command attached to the Special Anti-Cult Squad, Enugwu-Ukwu, had, four days earlier, acting on credible intelligence about a planned rival cult confrontation, arrested two dangerous suspects and recovered a firearm from them. The arrested suspects have been assisting the Police with valuable information aimed at preventing further cult-related violence within Awka and its environs.  Injured Awoniyi out of Nigeria friendly matches


Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has been ruled out of action for a few weeks after sustaining an injury just hours before Nottingham Forest’s Premier League game against Luton Town, Soccernet. ng reports.

Awoniyi has been an important player for Nottingham Forest since he joined the club from Union Berlin last season. Big things were expected of him after his impressive performances in the Bundesliga. Unfortunately, he has failed to deliver the goods consistently.

The 26-year-old has been haunted by injuries throughout his stay at the club, keeping him out of 27 games. This season, Awoniyi had a slow start because of injuries, but he soon picked up the pace.

Unfortunately, he sustained an injury in November last year and had to sit out almost three months. This ensured he did not make Nigeria’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nonetheless, Awoniyi returned in late January. Since his return, Awoniyi has played nine games for Nottingham Forest. He was also called up for the Super Eagles’ friendly games against Ghana and Mali later this month.

The former Liverpool man was conspicuously missing from the Trick Trees’ Premier League 1-1 game against Luton on Saturday

The extent of the injury is unknown, but according to the report, Awoniyi will be out for a few weeks and out of action for Nigeria’s friendly games against Ghana and Mali later this month.
