 Gov. Ododo’s Executive Proclamation Not State of Emergency  Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo  has clarified that his recent Executive Proclamation on security protocols in the state is not a declaration of a state of emergency but a set of necessary measures to enhance the security architecture to crackdown on criminals in all parts of the state.  This was contained in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Hon. Ismaila Isah, explaining that the proclamation is a lawful constitutional measure aimed at strengthening security coordination and protecting lives and property across Kogi State.  Gov. Ododo emphasized that it is within his powers as the Chief Security Officer of the state under Section 14 subsection 2(b) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended). Two Deaths Prompt Enugu Government to Crack Down on Excesses of Oriokpa Masqueraders


The Enugu State Government has launched a comprehensive investigation into the activities of Oriokpa masquerade groups following reports of two fatalities linked to their actions in Nsukka. Chief Okey Ogbodo, the Commissioner for Local Government, Rural Development, and Chieftaincy Affairs, confirmed the government's commitment to public safety, stating, “We will hold those responsible accountable for any harm caused to our citizens.” 


In response to the chaos instigated by the masqueraders, Ogbodo announced that traditional rulers and Presidents-General from affected communities—Nguru, Isiakpu, Echara, Nru, Edem-Ezema, Iheagu, Ihe, Owere, and Umuoyo—have been summoned for a meeting on September 27. He emphasized that the government will not tolerate further excesses, asserting, “Our people should never be made to live in fear; the rights and security of every citizen must be guaranteed.”


Governor Peter Mbah has directed the Commissioner of Police to investigate the incidents thoroughly. The government expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards any group or individual that disrupts public order. “Any such excesses by the Oriokpa masqueraders or any group will be met with commensurate sanctions,” the statement concluded.
