 Zambia president approves law expanding parliament months before election Zambia's President Hakainde Hichilema on Thursday signed into law constitutional changes that will expand the country's parliament, Reuters reported. The changes increase the number of members of parliament to around 280 from 167 currently by creating more constituencies, reserving 40 new seats for women, youth and people with disabilities, and allowing the president to appoint 11 members instead of eight previously. Hichilema, who will run for a second presidential term in the August 2026 election, said during a signing ceremony that the changes were being made in good faith and there was adequate consultation. He previously argued that some constituencies were too big for effective service delivery and should be split into smaller ones.  Governor Dapo Abiodun Signs 2025 Appropriation Bill Into Law


Governor Dapo Abiodun has officially signed the 2025 Appropriation Bill into law, solidifying his administration’s commitment to advancing Ogun State’s development agenda. The budget, titled the “Budget of Hope and Prosperity,” aims to drive sustainable growth, improve service delivery, and foster inclusive development across all sectors of the state.


During the signing ceremony at the Governor’s Office in Abeokuta, Governor Abiodun emphasized the budget’s focus on consolidating progress in critical areas such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and industrialization. He noted that it also opens new pathways for economic growth and human capital development.


“This budget represents the collective aspirations of the people of Ogun State. It embodies our unwavering commitment to delivering on our promises and ensuring every resource is utilized effectively for the benefit of all,” the Governor stated.


Governor Abiodun commended the Ogun State House of Assembly for their dedication and timely passage of the budget, describing their efforts as a testament to their shared vision for the state’s progress.


As the implementation phase begins, the Governor assured citizens of his administration’s steadfast commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance. He urged all stakeholders to support the government in actualizing the goals of the 2025 budget.


The “Budget of Hope and Prosperity” is poised to propel Ogun State toward greater economic stability and enhanced quality of life, reinforcing its position as a leader in sustainable development.
