Youths Set Ondo Police Station Ablaze Over Alleged Torture Death

Angry youths in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State stormed the divisional police station in Ifon town, chased away officers, and set the building on fire.

According to residents, the unrest began after a clash between two youth groups on Valentine’s Day. One group reported the incident to the police, leading to the arrest of two individuals from the opposing group.

Reports suggest that one of the arrested individuals died from alleged police torture, while the other was hospitalized. This sparked outrage among community youths, who protested at the police station, forcing officers to flee before setting the facility ablaze.

The protest reportedly continued into Sunday morning, prompting Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, to visit the area for an on-the-spot assessment.

According to a statement by Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, initial findings indicate that the conflict originated from a dispute between two families on Ogbomo Street, Ifon, which escalated into a public fight.

Police officers from Ifon Division, led by an inspector, intervened and made arrests while some suspects escaped.
