Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years.  Oborevwori Orders Crackdown as DSS Intercepts Heavy Arms Cache in Delta

Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has ordered an all-out crackdown on criminal networks after the DSS intercepted a cache of sophisticated weapons in Asaba.

During his visit to the DSS Command, the governor commended the agency for its intelligence and coordination, describing the operation as a “major breakthrough” in the fight against insecurity. He reaffirmed that his administration would tolerate no lawlessness, especially in Warri, warning those planning violence to desist.

“Bringing in heavy arms of this nature is a direct threat to our peace and will not be tolerated,” he stated, urging residents to support security agencies.

The governor also directed the immediate arrest of those behind the killing of Jerry Aduara, former Odion Urhobo Youth Council chairman, vowing that no one involved would escape justice.

According to Mr. Anthony Ifemeje, Deputy Director of Operations, DSS Delta Command, the operation on October 12, 2025, led to the arrest of Stephen Sabo Atoshi, a 40-year-old teacher from Taraba State, and an accomplice. The suspects confessed to eight years in arms trafficking from Libya through Chad and Yobe into Nigeria.

Recovered items included seven GPMGs, AK-47 rifles, hand grenades, and 497 cartons of fake drugs, some hidden in bags of beans bound for Oko Market, Asaba.

The DSS assured continued vigilance to dismantle criminal and arms smuggling networks threatening Delta’s peace.
