 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week. CENTIPEDE BITE LEAVES MAN IN CRITICAL CONDITION IN DURBAN. (PHOTOS).


 Centipede Bite Leaves Man In Critical Condition:  Durban - KZN


A 36 year old male is in a critical condition after he was bitten by a venomous Chinese Red Headed Centipede (image 4) last week (Friday).  


Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to the call for assistance in Mhlasini - KZN at 06:22 & Paramedics were shown a bite on his right thumb. The victim explained that he was lying on his bed when he noticed the centipede near his one (1) month old baby. He grabbed the creature & placed it in a plastic bag with intention to throw it  outdoors. The centipede bit the man through the plastic packet.  


The man was transported to hospital after he became nauseous and noticed that his head was swelling. While waiting to be treated at Osindisweni Government Hospital  (OGH) the man experienced dizziness (picture 3). After a lengthy wait, he was given an injection & medication and discharged by the attending doctor.  


When the man returned home, his head swelled (picture 1). He visited a local doctor who requested immediate hospitalisation.  The man explained that he arrived at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital (MGMH) in Phoenix - KZN at 15:30 (Monday) in excruciating pain and was ignored by hospital staff while he was seated in a wheelchair. 


He left the hospital five (5) hours later without receiving any medical attention after the nurses on duty informed him that he would receive treatment the next day.
