 NDLEA dismantles Abuja drug bunks, arrests 132, recovers 220kg illicit substances  -Marwa hails operation, vows to sustain crackdown in FCT, other states  In a non-stop two-week offensive action against traffickers and dealers, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully dismantled several drug joints and bunks within and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja where a total of 132 suspects were arrested and 220 kilograms of assorted illicit substances recovered. The wel-coordinated raids jointly conducted by the Agency's Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) and the FCT Strategic Command from llth to 25th April 2026 were launched to dismantle illicit drug hubs contributing to substance abuse, trafficking, and associated criminal activities in the capital city after weeks of intelligence and surveillance across all identified hotspots. Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari,  stood in for President Bola Tinubu, at the official launch of the Global Flood Disaster Management Project (GFDMP)


In his keynote address on behalf of the President, Senator Kyari described the initiative as a landmark step in international cooperation to build flood resilience, noting that Nigeria remains severely affected by climate-induced flooding that devastates farmlands, infrastructure and livelihoods.


He reaffirmed President Tinubu’s determination to pursue long-term climate adaptation through enhanced early-warning systems, flood-resilient infrastructure, improved disaster-response coordination and community-led solutions.


The President outlined the project’s four core pillars:

Flood-Resilient Infrastructure

Capacity Building and Knowledge Transfer

Community


 Engagement and Local Participation


Senator Kyari assured international partners of Nigeria’s full commitment to the initiative, pledging active collaboration to bolster national resilience and safeguard vulnerable communities.


The  ceremony drew policymakers, development partners, disaster-management specialists and members of the diplomatic corps, underscoring a collective resolve to create a safer, more resilient future in the face of escalating flood risks.
