The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has defended the expulsion of several high-profile members, describing the sanctions as necessary to protect the party’s unity and integrity.
Speaking at a Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting in Abuja on Sunday, BoT Chairman Senator Mao Ohuabunwa said the disciplinary actions were taken strictly in line with the party’s constitution and previously adopted resolutions.
“Individuals whose conduct has threatened the unity, stability, and credibility of our party have been sanctioned in line with established resolutions,” Ohuabunwa stated. “These measures were not taken lightly. They became necessary to protect the institution and restore confidence among our members nationwide.”
The faction, currently led by acting National Chairman Mohammed Abdulrahman, had earlier announced the expulsion of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, former acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, former Minister Kabiru Turaki, chieftain Chief Bode George, former Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja, and several others.
In a separate statement signed by National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, the Wike-aligned leadership warned members of the public against transacting with individuals organizing a purported national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, declaring such actions illegal.
The latest development deepens the protracted crisis within the PDP, with two parallel leadership structures now claiming legitimacy ahead of critical party activities.
