 Malian army withdraws from key Tessalit military camp: sources Mali’s army and its Russian mercenary allies have surrendered Camp Tessalit, a strategic military post in the north, multiple sources told the AFP news agency on Friday. An official from the Tuareg-led separatist group claimed soldiers and mercenaries at the camp had "surrendered", following a fierce fight over the weekend. Simultaneous attacks in Mali by militants linked to Al Qaeda and separatist Tuareg rebels on April 25 showed how fighters ​from different groups with different goals were able to strike at the heart of the West African country's military government.  Peter Obi Pledges to Cover N4,741,400 for 148 Prisoners to Write NECO Exams


‎Social media users have flocked to X (formerly Twitter) to share their reactions after news broke that Peter Obi, former Anambra State governor and prominent figure in the Labour Party, has pledged to cover the examination fees of several inmates preparing to take the NECO exams.

‎Obi revealed this gesture in a post shared on his official X account on Saturday, December 6, 2025. In his statement, he explained that he was contacted by a group of representatives acting on behalf of the inmates, who appealed for financial assistance to enable them register for the upcoming examinations.

‎He disclosed that the registration fee amounts to ₦30,050 per candidate, and he has committed a total of ₦4,741,400, which will fully sponsor 148 inmates. According to Obi, this support is part of his ongoing commitment to promoting education, which he described as a vital pillar for individual growth and societal development.

‎In his message, he added:

‎"I will send a formal letter to the representatives on Monday to confirm that the fees will be settled, ensuring the inmates are able to participate in the exams. I also expressed my intention to collaborate with friends and supporters to help offset the expenses."
