AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  FG Charges Senior Advocate Mike Ozekhome Over Alleged Forgery in UK Property Dispute.

Abuja, January 18, 2026 – The federal government has filed criminal charges against Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, over alleged forgery and the use of false documents in a property dispute in the United Kingdom.

The three-count charge, filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja, alleges that Ozekhome knowingly submitted forged documents, including a Nigerian passport, to support his claim over a property at 79 Randall Avenue, London NW2 7SX. The case was brought by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on behalf of the Attorney-General of the Federation.

The charges, which cover giving false information, using forged documents, and attempting to deceive a public authority, stem from alleged actions in August 2021. Prosecutors plan to call ICPC investigators and representatives from the Nigerian Immigration Service as witnesses. Key exhibits include tribunal judgments, official letters, and passport data linked to the disputed property.

The controversy dates back to a UK First-Tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) case, REF/2023/0155, involving Ozekhome and the late retired Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Useni. The property was claimed by Ms Tali Shani, while Ozekhome maintained it was gifted to him by Mr Tali Shani. The tribunal ultimately dismissed claims from both parties, ruling that neither individual existed, and identified Useni as the real owner operating under a false name.

The trial date for Ozekhome’s case in Abuja is yet to be set.
