A man survived a terrifying crash at Palo Duro Canyon State Park in the Texas Panhandle after his vehicle rolled roughly 200 feet down a canyon. Officials said he sustained a concussion and broken ribs.
The accident occurred after a tire blew out while he was driving after dark on Park Road 5 on March 8, causing him to leave the roadway and tumble down the canyon. The following morning, the man walked from the crash site to the Mack Dick Pavilion, where park staff found him around 11:49 a.m. with visible injuries, including a black eye and bleeding.
Park personnel notified Texas State Park Police, who later located the overturned vehicle below the "Big Hill" east of Park Road 5. The man was transported to Northwest Texas Hospital for treatment. Emergency crews used a high-angle rope system to secure the vehicle so Canyon/Sierra Towing could retrieve it. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
