David Wilcock, a well-known paranormal writer, bestselling author, and online personality who built a large following around UFO disclosure theories and other alternative ideas, died on April 20 at his home in Colorado. He was 53.
Wilcock was a prominent and often polarizing figure in alternative media, attracting audiences across conspiracy theory communities, New Age spirituality circles, and UFO enthusiasts. He was closely associated with the so-called disclosure movement, which promotes the belief that governments are concealing information about extraterrestrial life and unidentified flying objects.
Over the years, he became a familiar face in fringe media spaces, including appearances on the television series “Ancient Aliens,” which explores speculative theories about ancient civilizations and extraterrestrial influence on human history. He also maintained a significant online presence, including a YouTube channel that had more than 500,000 subscribers at the time of his death.
He authored multiple books, including “Awakening in the Dream” and “The Ascension Mysteries,” both of which reached bestseller lists. From 2015 to 2018, he co-hosted the streaming series “Cosmic Disclosures,” where he discussed UFO-related claims alongside co-host Corey Goode.
Authorities in Boulder County said deputies responded to Wilcock’s home after a 911 call in which the caller was believed to be experiencing a mental health crisis. When deputies arrived, they encountered a man armed with a weapon, and he died at the scene shortly after. The county coroner later confirmed the man was Wilcock.
In the aftermath, his former co-host Corey Goode alleged that Wilcock had been facing cyberstalking and harassment prior to his death.
Wilcock’s passing prompted responses from followers and figures within alternative media communities. His family said in a statement that he had struggled with depression and financial difficulties, and they expressed hope that his death would lead to greater attention on mental health care access.
They also described him as more than his public persona, saying he was “a human navigating the same complexities and vulnerabilities that shape all our lives,” and urged compassion and understanding in how people treat one another.
