Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years. WhatsApp chats have been encrypted since 2016, and the company began rolling out default encryption for Messenger in 2023. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,EFCC,will on Thursday ,December 7 flag off the Nigerian Women Against Corruption,WAC,project at the International Conference Centre,Abuja with the aim of engaging women across the country in a nationwide sustainable fight against corruption.According to the Acting Chairman of the EFCC,Ibrahim Magu,the epoch-making event,which is in collaboration with the office of the wife of the President would be flagged off by Her Excellency Hajia Aisha Muhammadu Buhari beginning at nine o'clock in the morning.''The choice of women is strategic,because we belive that they are torch-bearers in the anti-corruption crusade,and it is because of the important role they play in making the society a better place'', Magu said.He further added that: ''The WAC project is aimed at galvanizing Nigerian women to buy into the corruption fight and also to raise the consciousness of the consequences of corruption in the minds of their households''.The WAC programme,which is coming up two days before the twenty sixteen International Anti-Corruption Day celebration,has Justice Aloma Mariam Mukhtar {retd},Nigeria's first female Chief Justice of Nigeria as the guest speaker.The project will further be taken to the grassroots through the states and local governments across the country.More photos below.
