In a statement by the Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, The recovery occurred on Sunday, 14 June 2026, following a distress report received by the patrol team concerning a Toyota Camry, gold in colour, with registration number RBC 987 CM, which was reportedly stolen from a church premises in Benin City earlier in the day. The suspect found in possession of the vehicle claimed to be a delivery agent but has been handed over to officers of the Nigeria Police Force and taken into custody for further interrogation.

 CULTURE MINISTER LAYS MOTHER TO REST The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, has laid her mother, Hajiya Fatima Binta Ladi Musa Musawa, to rest following her passing on Saturday, after a brief illness. In a statement by Dr. Nneka Ikem Anibeze, Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Minister, the family announced that Hajiya Fatima, who was born on August 15, 1955, in Gusau, Zamfara State, was widely admired for her unwavering faith, humility, compassion and devotion to her family and community. In accordance with Islamic rites, the Jana'iza (funeral) prayer was held at the National Mosque, Abuja, after which she was interred at Gudu Cemetery, Abuja.  SULTAN CALLS FOR SIGHTING OF MUHARRAM MOON  - FIRST MONTH OF THE ISLAMIC CALENDAR 1448 AH The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar, has called on Muslims across the Country to look for the new Moon of Muharram 1448 AH on Monday, 15th June, 2026. The call was in a statement issued by the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council Sokoto, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu. It says, Monday 15th June, 2026 corresponding to the 29th day of Zulhijjah 1447AH, has been designated as the day for the sighting of the new Moon of Muharram, which is the first Month of the Islamic Calendar. It Urged Muslims  to look and report any confirmed sighting of the Moon to the nearest District Head or Village Head for onward communication to the Sultan.

 FG To Repatriate About 100 Nigerians From Ethiopian Prison Nearly 100 Nigerians in Ethiopian prisons will be repatriated to complete their sentences back home, after Nigeria and Ethiopia signed a prisoner transfer agreement in Addis Ababa. Foreign Affairs Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s assurance to the inmates at Aba Samuel Prison saying that the country will not abandon them. Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi SAN and Ethiopia’s Justice Minister Hanna Arayaselassie signed the agreement for their countries, which were facilitated by both countries’ foreign ministers. The deal covers 98 inmates; 96 men and 2 women who must consent and have at least one year left on their sentences. The minister said the agreement is enshrined in government’s 4-D foreign policy and urged inmates to cooperate with documentation. At least four Nigerians died during negotiations. NIGERIA STRENGTHENS AGRICULTURAL TIES WITH INDIA Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to strengthening agricultural cooperation with India. Speaking during a bilateral meeting with his Indian counterpart, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, in Indore, the Minister emphasized Nigeria’s dedication to honouringg existing understandings in food production and agribusiness. The high-level discussions focused on deepening strategic partnership between the two nations, particularly in agricultural technology, crop production, and the supply of crops of mutual interest. Minister Kyari said his ministry will actively follow up on pending Memorandums of Understanding on bilateral agricultural cooperation, which are expected to take effect soon.
