Oldest Pearl Harbor survivor recalls day of attack and life aboard USS St. Louis  Freeman Johnson, 106, the oldest known survivor of the Pearl Harbor attack, was deep below deck aboard the USS St. Louis repairing a boiler on the morning of Dec. 7, 1941, when Japanese aircraft struck Hawaii. He never saw the attack unfold or heard the anti-aircraft fire that downed at least one enemy plane. By the time he reached the surface, the light cruiser had already evaded midget submarines and was heading out to sea, leaving him largely unaware of what had just taken place. Johnson, now a Centerville, Massachusetts resident, recalled being in a steam drum during the chaos topside. He said he had no view of the battle and only understood later what had happened. Serving as a fireman in the ship’s engineering section, he said sailors like him were rarely told details unless necessary. “We were way out to sea… you couldn’t see any land at all,” he said, describing how isolated they felt as...

The remains of Genoa University student Giorgia Sommacal, 22, and research fellow Muriel Oddenino, 31, were located deep inside a cave at more than 200 feet and retrieved by an international specialist dive rescue team. Their recovery followed earlier operations that brought up two other members of the group on Tuesday. The retrieval effort relied on a coordinated system involving elite Finnish divers from the Divers Alert Network, who descended into the cave using rebreathers that extend dive time by recycling exhaled air and removing carbon dioxide. Kim Zolciak's rich boyfriend denies estranged wife's claims of his 'out of control' spending Kim Zolciak’s boyfriend, Kyle Mowitz, has strongly denied claims from his estranged wife, Jillian Greene, that he has been lavishly spending money on the former Real Housewives of Atlanta star.  Greene, who is in the midst of her own divorce battle with Mowitz, alleged that he controls a fortune exceeding $100 million and accused him of depleting it through extravagant gestures toward Zolciak.  She filed an injunction to stop what she described as his “out of control” spending, fearing it would impact their eventual settlement. Mowitz responded with court filings rejecting Greene’s accusations, insisting it was false to say he prioritizes his lifestyle or Zolciak’s over his family’s needs.  Instead, he accused Greene of running up debts on credit cards he funds and pointed to her own costly habits, including a $2,300 hotel stay.  Greene, however, has maintained that Mowitz ha...

In a statement released on Sunday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku warned that the party must field its strongest candidate to unseat President Bola Tinubu, dismissing social media enthusiasm as an insufficient measure of readiness for the presidency. With Nigeria currently grappling with severe economic hardship, mounting public debt, widespread insecurity, and institutional decay, Atiku said the ADC cannot afford to experiment with an untested candidate. “This is not a season for political experimentation. Nigeria cannot afford a learning-on-the-job presidency,” he declared. Without directly naming any potential rivals, the former vice president took a swipe at ...
