 Anambra Chief Judge, Anyachebelu, Releases 7 Inmates At Medium Security Custodial Centre Awka, Denies Bail To Man “Marrying” his Sister. The Anambra State Chief Judge, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, has concluded the 2025 annual prison visit at the Medium Security Custodial Centre Awka, where he released seven inmates and granted bail to about seven others, ordering that the trials of those granted bail be continued at the regular courts. Justice Anyachebelu, during court proceedings that lasted for hours, denied bail to a rape suspect, Chukwujioke Ezeibekwe from Ekwulobia, who told the court that he did not rape anyone but “married” and now has two children with his biological sister, as the matter was adjourned to January 20, 2026. Four Dead, Seven Arrested As Suspected Cultists Clash In Ogun

Four persons have died with seven others arrested following a cult clash in Sagamu, Sagamu Local Government Area of the state. 

The spokesman of the Ogun State Police Command Omolola Odutola said the suspects were arrested after a raid led by an assistant commissioner of police.

“Upon receiving the information, the Area Commander swiftly mobilised more personnel to the scene in order to prevent the clash from escalating and to apprehend the cultists involved as a result, seven suspected cultists were arrested, and further investigations led to the recovery of a firearm, three live cartridges,” she said about the Sunday incident.

“The individuals apprehended are Asaiye Omolaja, Azeez Nofiu, Mathew Adewale, and Bolaji Ogunkemaya. It is worth noting that Bolaji Ogunkemaya was found with the four deceased persons in the same room where the killings occurred. One individual, Wasiu, managed to escape before the authorities arrived.

“During the raid, Bolaji Ogunkemaya provided critical information, stating that their leader, known as Azubuike aka Better, had been arrested by the Area Commander a fortnight ago. This information underscores the commitment of the police to dismantle these criminal networks,” the spokesperson added.

In the wake of the incident, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun, visited Sagamu to assess the situation and profile the suspects apprehended.

During the visit, he warned cultists in Ogun State that their activities would no longer be tolerated. He also declared a zero-tolerance policy towards senseless killings.

Normalcy has been restored to the area following the clash.
