M23 says hundreds of Burundi soldiers captured in latest Congo offensive The Rwanda-backed M23 group has captured hundreds of Burundian soldiers during its latest offensive in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a rebel official said, as clashes continued despite a warning from the Trump administration. Last week M23 entered the strategic town of Uvira near the border with Burundi, less than a week after the presidents of Congo and Rwanda met in Washington with U.S. President Donald Trump and affirmed their commitment to a peace deal known as the Washington Accords. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that Rwanda's actions in eastern Congo violated the Washington Accords and vowed to "take action to ensure promises made to the President are kept". Rwanda denies supporting M23 and has blamed Congolese and Burundian forces for the renewed fighting.  ‘Everything’ll be all right — Tinubu’s daughter asks Nigerians to be patient with her father

Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, daughter of President Bola Tinubu, says the current economic hardship is not peculiar to Nigeria alone.

Speaking with journalists at the 2024 Mawlid Nabiyy of the Lagos state chapter of Aljamahatul Qadiriyyah Islamic Movement, Tinubu-Ojo, said the world is experiencing an economic downturn.

However, the president’s daughter, who is also the Iyaloja General of Lagos, urged Nigerians to have patience and keep hope alive.

“My message to all Nigerians is to please exercise a little more patience. Everything will be alright; it’s just a matter of time,” she said.

“We need to keep our hope alive. There is an economic downturn all over the world, and not in Nigeria alone. But we pray Allah will see us through.”

Earlier, her brother, Seyi, provoked a chorus of condemnation on Monday after he urged Nigerians to be patient with the current administration.

In an Instagram post, Seyi pleaded with Nigerians to endure the current economic hardship.

Seyi, while quoting his dad in the post, said Nigerians need to endure the trying times for “a better future”.

“There is no joy in seeing the people of this nation shoulder burdens that should have been shed years ago. I wish today’s difficulties did not exist. But we must endure if we are to reach the good side of our future,” – President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Bola A Tinubu,” he wrote.

Seyi’s post, however, did not go down well with many Nigerians on social media.

The remarks from the children of the president come at a time when many Nigerians are protesting against the economic hardship in the country.

Residents of Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, took to the streets on Monday to decry the state of the nation.

Protests have also been staged in Kano, Ogun, Niger and Sokoto states.

The labour union has also announced a nationwide protest on February 27 and 28 over the rising cost of living.

Food prices have been on the rise since President Tinubu pronounced an end to the petrol subsidy regime on May 29, 2023.

There have also been reports about an imminent increase in the cost of fuel from N585.
