 STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE   ENGINEERS FAROUK AHMED, GBENGA KOMOLAFE RESIGN, PRESIDENT TINUBU NOMINATES SUCCESSORS TO THE SENATE FOR APPROVAL President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the Senate to approve the nominations of two new chief executives for the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).   The requests followed the resignation of Engineer Farouk Ahmed of the NMDPRA and Gbenga Komolafe of the NUPRC. Both officials were appointed in 2021 by former President Buhari to lead the two regulatory agencies created by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).   To fill these positions, President Tinubu has written to the Senate, requesting expedited confirmation of Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan as CEO of NUPRC and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as CEO of NMDPRA.   The two nominees are seasoned professionals in the oil and gas industry.   Eyesan, a graduate of Economics f...

 NNPC set to transfer Warri, Kaduna refineries to private operators


The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has officially announced its plans to seek collaborations with reputable and trustworthy operations and maintenance firms to oversee the operations of the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) and the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC). 


This decision was communicated in a statement released on Friday through the company’s official ‘X’ handle.


"NNPC Ltd is actively seeking partnerships with reputable and reliable Operations & Maintenance (O&M) companies to manage the operations of Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) and Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC), with the objective of ensuring reliability and sustainability to fulfill the nation's fuel supply and energy security obligations," the statement read.


The Warri Refinery, situated in Delta State was commissioned in 1978, and is a complex conversion refinery with a distillation capacity of 6,250,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTA). It includes a petrochemical plant commissioned in 1988 with production capacities of 13,000 MTA of polypropylene and 18,000 MTA of carbon black.


The Kaduna Refinery was commissioned in 1980 and was initially capable of producing 50,000 barrels per day (opd). Its capacity was expanded in 1983 and further increased in 1986, bringing the current capacity to 110.000 bpd.
