 M23 says hundreds of Burundi soldiers captured in latest Congo offensive The Rwanda-backed M23 group has captured hundreds of Burundian soldiers during its latest offensive in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a rebel official said, as clashes continued despite a warning from the Trump administration. Last week M23 entered the strategic town of Uvira near the border with Burundi, less than a week after the presidents of Congo and Rwanda met in Washington with U.S. President Donald Trump and affirmed their commitment to a peace deal known as the Washington Accords. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that Rwanda's actions in eastern Congo violated the Washington Accords and vowed to "take action to ensure promises made to the President are kept".  NNPC set to transfer Warri, Kaduna refineries to private operators


The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has officially announced its plans to seek collaborations with reputable and trustworthy operations and maintenance firms to oversee the operations of the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) and the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC). 


This decision was communicated in a statement released on Friday through the company’s official ‘X’ handle.


"NNPC Ltd is actively seeking partnerships with reputable and reliable Operations & Maintenance (O&M) companies to manage the operations of Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) and Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC), with the objective of ensuring reliability and sustainability to fulfill the nation's fuel supply and energy security obligations," the statement read.


The Warri Refinery, situated in Delta State was commissioned in 1978, and is a complex conversion refinery with a distillation capacity of 6,250,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTA). It includes a petrochemical plant commissioned in 1988 with production capacities of 13,000 MTA of polypropylene and 18,000 MTA of carbon black.


The Kaduna Refinery was commissioned in 1980 and was initially capable of producing 50,000 barrels per day (opd). Its capacity was expanded in 1983 and further increased in 1986, bringing the current capacity to 110.000 bpd.
