 STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE   ENGINEERS FAROUK AHMED, GBENGA KOMOLAFE RESIGN, PRESIDENT TINUBU NOMINATES SUCCESSORS TO THE SENATE FOR APPROVAL President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the Senate to approve the nominations of two new chief executives for the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).   The requests followed the resignation of Engineer Farouk Ahmed of the NMDPRA and Gbenga Komolafe of the NUPRC. Both officials were appointed in 2021 by former President Buhari to lead the two regulatory agencies created by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).   To fill these positions, President Tinubu has written to the Senate, requesting expedited confirmation of Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan as CEO of NUPRC and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as CEO of NMDPRA.   The two nominees are seasoned professionals in the oil and gas industry.   Eyesan, a graduate of Economics f...

 CAF confirms Super Eagles’ AFCON qualifier against Libya will not hold


The Confederation of African Football has announced that the second leg of the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 qualifier fixture between the Super Eagles and Libya, scheduled for Tuesday, will not take place.


This follows the Nigerians’ boycott of the fixture in protest against what they described as the inhumane treatment they suffered in the North African country.


“The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 qualifier fixture between Libya and Nigeria will not take place as scheduled tonight. The matter will be referred to the competent CAF bodies,” read a short statement from CAF on Tuesday.


CAF had, on Monday, in response to the controversy surrounding the game, stated that it had launched an investigation into the incident after the Libya Football Federation alleged sabotage and threatened legal action against Nigeria.


In a statement on Monday night, the LFF condemned Nigeria’s decision to withdraw from the fixture.


The LFF accused the Nigerian Football Federation of failing to cooperate in organising the match.


The Super Eagles cited safety concerns after being stranded at Al Abraq Airport for over 13 hours on Sunday.
