 Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years. WhatsApp chats have been encrypted since 2016, and the company began rolling out default encryption for Messenger in 2023. AN 18-YEAR-OLD ARIZONA MAN CALLED POLICE TO REPORT HIS MOTHER HAF BEEN KIDNAPPED, THE TRUTH WAS FAR MORE HORRIFIC. (PHOTO).

 An 18-year-old Arizona man called police to report his mother had been kidnapped. 


The truth was far more horrific. 


Pinal County, Arizona deputies were called to a field on Skyline drive after a citizen made a grisly discovery. Once on scene, deputies found the body of 38-year-old Mary Collier. They also found a broken kitchen knife nearby that had obviously been used to take Mary's life.


Only 7 minutes after the initial 911 call 18-year-old Alan Ashcroft made a chilling 911 call from his home. In the call he told Police his mother had gone for a walk and "something really bad had occurred". He went on to explain unknown people had kidnapped his mother while walking.


Dispatchers asked to speak to someone else in the home and Alan's brother got on the line. He said that Alan and his mother had gone for a walk but only a bloody Alan had returned.


It didn't take long for deputies to consider Alan a suspect and they descended on his home to take him in for questioning. When they arrived Alan attempted to run away, however he was quickly apprehended. 


As deputies investigated the death they learned that Alan and his mother had been arguing for several days. On the morning of her death, the two had went for a walk to try to talk over their issues. Sadly it seems the walk with his mother was simply a pretext in order to take her life.


Authorities uncovered a journal in Alan's room where he seemed to be plotting his mother's death.


As the story emerged Alan admitted he had taken a knife from the kitchen to take his mother's life. While walking the two had sat on some hay bales to talk. While sitting, Mary saw the knife and asked Alan to give it to her. The two began to struggle for it and Alan headbutted his mother and pinned her down. He then used the knife on his mother's neck.


Alan Ashcroft has been charged with first-degree murder.
