Kebbi Govt Donates 10 Hilux Vehicles to Boost Security on Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway  The Kebbi State Government has handed over 10 brand-new Hilux vehicles to the Federal Ministry of Works to strengthen security for personnel working on the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway project. The vehicles were formally received by the Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, who praised Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasiru Idris (Kauran Gwandu), for the donation. Goronyo described the gesture as a clear demonstration of the state government’s commitment to protecting workers and contractors on the strategic highway corridor. He explained that the vehicles will be deployed exclusively to security operatives providing cover for construction teams along the section of the super highway passing through Kebbi State.  Murder Charge: Evans' Re-Arraignment Delayed Due to Lawyer's Absence

The re-arraignment of convicted billionaire kidnapper Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, aka Evans, was delayed on Thursday at the Lagos State High Court due to the absence of his lawyer.

When the case was called before Justice Adenike Coker, she inquired about Evans' legal representation, to which Evans responded that he was unsure whether his lawyer would appear.

Evans and his co-defendant, Joseph Emeka, were scheduled to be re-arraigned on amended charges, including murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, and attempted murder.

Nelson Onyejaka, the lawyer for the second defendant, informed the court that he had been unable to reach Evans' lawyer despite multiple attempts, including phone calls earlier that morning. He further clarified that the lawyer was not based in Lagos.

State Prosecutor Yusuf Sule noted that the re-arraignment had been repeatedly delayed by the absence of Evans' legal representation, stressing that it was time for the defendant to secure a lawyer based in Lagos or appoint another attorney to proceed with the case. Sule also mentioned that Evans had previously applied for a plea bargain but was uncertain whether he still wished to pursue it.

Justice Coker directed the prosecution to ensure the Office of the Public Defender (OPD) is present at the next hearing. She stated that if Evans' lawyer remains absent, the OPD could represent him, and the re-arraignment would proceed. The case was adjourned to January 30, 2025.
