Anambra to go after houses without proper drainage in order to combat Erosion  Worried by the rising menace of gully erosion, the Anambra State Government has threatened to enforce regulations requiring residents to provide proper drainage for storm water from their homes. The State Executive Council (ANSEC), which announced the proposed enforcement, lamented that erosion remains an existential challenge in Anambra, blaming the situation on careless actions by some communities and lapses by regulatory bodies in enforcing environmental laws.  Imo: Protest Rocks Owerri Over Demolition of Old Timber Market

Residents of Umuonyima community in Owerri Municipal Council of Imo State took to the streets to protest the demolition of the Old Timber Market by the state government. The protesters, led by community leaders, expressed their outrage over the sudden demolition, which they claim was carried out without adequate notice.

According to Christian Anukam, President General of the Community, the government's action was "inhumane" and caught them off guard. "They came and informed us just a day before the demolition," Anukam said, adding that the community had supported the APC-led administration of Hope Uzodinma.

Community leaders, including Paschal Ugwuanyi and Prince Mike Ukaegbu, emphasized that the land was released to them in 2007 for the market and that they were not given sufficient time to secure their goods before the demolition. They pleaded with the state government to reconsider and provide more time for the occupants to relocate.

However, Frank Nkem, General Manager of the Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA), claimed that a 21-day notice was given to the occupants, which they allegedly refused to adhere to. Nkem stated that the government is concerned about the area's alleged involvement in criminal activities and that the traders had been officially relocated to the Naze Industrial Market years ago.
