 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.  Anambra Assembly Speaker, Udeze Congratulates Nwachukwu, Azikiwe On Senatorial, State Assembly Election Victory

The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon.Somtochukwu Udeze has described the election and declaration of Chief Emma Nwachukwu as Senator-elect and Ifeoma Azikiwe (Esq) as State House of Assembly member-elect, both of the All Progressives Grand Alliance as a true confirmation of the supremacy of APGA and commitment of the party faithful in the state.


In his congratulatory message to the Anambra South Senator-elect, Chief Nwachukwu and Onitsha North One House of Assembly member-elect, Azikiwe, Rt.Hon.Udeze noted that Ndi Anambra South and Onitsha North One State Constituency have proven that APGA is surely on ground in the state.


The Speaker who paid glowing tribute to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his dogged efforts and massive campaigns he led in the two elections, commended him particularly for his numerous accomplishments in the state, which he said, were enough campaign tools for the two APGA candidates, Chief Nwachukwu and Azikiwe.


He lauded the zeal with which his colleagues in the state legislature especially lawmakers from Anambra South and North Senatorial Districts took the by-election, adding that they really worked hard to achieve the victory.


Udeze enjoined the Senator-elect, Chief Nwachukwu and State House member-elect, Azikiwe to remain good ambassadors of APGA and join hands with Governor Soludo in advancing good governance in the state.
