 NDLEA dismantles Abuja drug bunks, arrests 132, recovers 220kg illicit substances  -Marwa hails operation, vows to sustain crackdown in FCT, other states  In a non-stop two-week offensive action against traffickers and dealers, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully dismantled several drug joints and bunks within and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja where a total of 132 suspects were arrested and 220 kilograms of assorted illicit substances recovered. The wel-coordinated raids jointly conducted by the Agency's Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) and the FCT Strategic Command from llth to 25th April 2026 were launched to dismantle illicit drug hubs contributing to substance abuse, trafficking, and associated criminal activities in the capital city after weeks of intelligence and surveillance across all identified hotspots.  ANAMBRA GOVERNMENT COMMISSIONS PSA MEDICAL OXYGEN PLANT IN ENUGWU UKWU

GENERAL HOSPITAL

The Anambra State Government has taken a significant step towards improving healthcare services in the state with the commissioning of a Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA), Medical Oxygen Production Plant at Enugwu Ukwu General Hospital.


The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike while inaugurating the plant on Thursday, August 21 at the Enugw Ukwu General Hospital, Njikoka Local Government Area, noted that the aim was to boost healthcare delivery in health facilities in the state especially in making Oxygen readily available with affordable prices anytime it is needed.


According to Dr. Obidike, the oxygen plant will provide a consistent and reliable supply of oxygen, reducing dependence on external suppliers and minimizing the risk of shortages. "This development is expected to improve patient care, enabling doctors to deliver timely and effective treatment.


"It will also reduce transportation costs for hospitals in the area, as they will no longer need to travel long distances to access oxygen,’’Obidike said.

 Additionally, the plant will enhance emergency responses, particularly in mass casualty incidents.


Dr. Obidike expressed gratitude to the Global Fund, the federal government, and the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) for their collaboration in building the well-equipped oxygen plant, which includes a power generator set.


The commissioning ceremony was attended by key stakeholders, including the hospitals administrator, Dr. Frank Ifeanaeme, Director of Medical Services, Dr. Ugochukwu Chukwulobelu, the Head of Enugwu Ukwu General Hospital, Dr. Dozie Udeolisa, and representative from the federal government, Mrs Grace Izuwa ,  NACA representative,Oxygen Desk Officer, Mr Chizoba  Nwabashili, among others.


This initiative is part of the state government's efforts to upgrade healthcare infrastructure and improve patient care. The people of Enugwu Ukwu and surrounding areas can now access quality medical oxygen, a vital resource for saving lives.
